Hektor6644 Posted August 12, 2009 Share #41 Posted August 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) "I'm itching to sell the Digilux 2 to get a D-Lux 4." Hi Michael: I just ordered the D-Lux 4 from B&H and will get it tomorrow. The Digilux 2 and the DL4 are two completely different cameras, imho. The D2 is basically a Rangefinder type of camera, while the DL4 is a P&S, a Leica and probably the top-of-the-line P&S, but a P&S, nevertheless. The D2 size sensor is more than twice as big as the DL4, which makes a horrendous difference. Never mind about the amount of pixels that can be crammed in a surface area. 5 MP in a surface area of ~ 18mm x 13.5 is infinitely superior to a 10 MP crammed in a ~ 8mm x 6mm actual sensor size area. In addition, the D2 lens is also superior. I got the D-Lux 4 because I wanted to have a camera with me at all times. I will carry clipped to my belt inside my Lowepro Rezo 30 that I also got. I was missing all types of shots for not having a camera with me at the time. For that reason, I went with a P&S size camera. However, there is a compromise to be made. In my case, size – a small size – was the overriding constraint. I do have the Nikons D300 and D700. If I were you, I would not trade the Digilux 2 for the D-Lux 4. cstevens Posted August 12, 2009 Share #42 Posted August 12, 2009 An interesting thread as a 4 month owner of a D-Lux 4 (that I love) and a two day owner of a Digilux 2 which I am still thinking was a bargin. Will add my comments when I actually go out and shoot with the D2
Hektor6644 Posted August 12, 2009 Share #43 Posted August 12, 2009 Hi: The Digilux 2 and D-Lux 4 is a very nice combo, imho. Congrats! My D-Lux 4, due to arrive tomorrow, is sitting in Ontario, CA for over a day (less than 40 miles from my home.) UPS – turkeys. Am I looking forward to it? Oh, yes! I call it “Mighty Mouse” and it is special for such a small camera and it will be my most used one. However, it is not cheap for a “Mighty Mouse.” The whole thing came to ~ $850: 1.D-Lux 4 System 2.Leica Wrist Strap (for C-Lux 2) 3.Lowepro Rezo 30 (camera belt pouch) 4.Extra Leica battery 5.Giotto 3” Screen Protector 6.Lexar 4GB 133x Pro SD-HC card 7.Sandisk 4GB II SD-HC Card I just got the Rezo 30 and it could not be better. It is small, well padded, and a front pouch with two divisions: one for the extra SD-HC and the other for the extra battery. Wow! I bought it because of the dimensions I got over the internet. I also got the Leica wrist strap. Tomorrow – L-Day!!! Best Regards, Ramesses
lykaman Posted August 12, 2009 Share #44 Posted August 12, 2009 Hi, for what it's worth, both Leicas are very capable cameras, individual preferences & getting the best from either camera is in the hands of the holder"" I love my DL4 as I do my R6.2 and my D300.. if the Leica/DL4 incorporated a v/finder I feel the camera would be ""Fantastic"' as it is already a very capable piece of equipment.. The "BEST Camera & Lens combination is only as good as the Photographer..............
carlosecpf Posted September 1, 2009 Share #45 Posted September 1, 2009 Hey all, I am a proud owner of a Digilux 3, which I have recently bought brand new. The picture quality is simply outstanding! I also have a D-Lux 4, which is a fine little camera and produces very good results! But my recent acquisition is a Digilux 2, which will arrive later this week. I can't wait to put my hands on it. I wonder if anyone in this list uses those 3 cameras (or at least the D3 and D2) and could shed a light on what would be the best way to have them living together. My idea was to sell the D-lux 4 and keep the D2 as my compact camera for street photography and candid portraits. I would use the D3 for traveling purposes, using a Vario Elmar 14-150mm, and for low ligh, indoor shooting, using a Summilux 25mm, and action pictures. Is there anyone that with a similar setup that could share with me the experience of having a D3 and D2 at the same time? Thanks in advance!
