M8 @ ISO 1250 & 90mm Elmar 1954 model

It was at sunset and I was following some lion tracks and got out of the Land Rover to have a closer look. Even though I had been looking for them I didn't see these 2 lions, a mating male and female lying in the grass about 20 to 30 metres away. They saw me, and he got up. I managed to take the first pic and reversed myself back into the Land Rover.

As I got back into the vehicle he charged straight at me. I managed to take the 2nd pic before he stopped about 3 meters away letting out a low growl. He eventually backed off after a few minutes, it did seem to take forever.

It must have been that noisy M8 shutter that pissed him off! :D

For obvious reasons my focus wasn't spot on.

Thanks for viewing.

Louis, Flatfour, Mauro & Virgil- Thank you for your taking the time to comment, much appreciated.

I've never faced a charge, but I have locked eyes with a lion in Kenya and that was chilling enough. I'll bet two barrels in .375H&H might have seemed more appropriate for at least a moment.;)

Nealf- In over 30 years in the bush this was my most uncomfortable encounter with a lion. I can't explain how angry he was. I shouted as loud as I could at him it probably sounded like a .375 going off.
