Guest stnami Posted December 27, 2008 Share #1 Posted December 27, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) The unfortunate thing is that forums/threads that specialise in a camera tend to become bias very quickly and everything else other than the camera in question becomes worse and the talked about camera is elevated to heights beyond it's capabilities. On another forum there was a thread started called The G1 in low light conditions unfortunately it just turned into a high iso thread and lighting conditions were ignored. Seeing that some of the posters also post here it would be nice to see some examples of the G1/ leica lens in low light ie dusk/ dimly lit room at 800/1600iso etc compared to the new benchmarks in low light high iso cameras the nikons ( many are nikon owners there). Good light and high isos are not a true indication of what the performance of the sensor. The results in performance are predictable............. but how is it going to influence one's needs

TEBnewyork Posted December 27, 2008 Share #2 Posted December 27, 2008 This coming week I will have the G1 (but only with CV lenses no M adapter yet) and D700 side by side at a party and will post some low light shots from both cameras.

Vivek Iyer Posted January 12, 2009 Share #6 Posted January 12, 2009 stnami, I can't post any shots. You will have to seek them out from elsewhere (flickr, for example, most of mine are untagged to help with your search. ). I don't compare as I do not use any of my Nikons (cameras or lenses) anymore because there is no point in dragging something heavy and unappealing just because I own it. It makes no difference as to how high ISO capabilities Nikon cameras have or how the dynamic range is far more superior to that of the small format G1. Vivek Iyer Posted January 13, 2009 Share #8 Posted January 13, 2009 Oh, I did not say that I do not know how to post images. Only meant that I am confused as to which one is a "photo section" and the other the "chat section" (or only a few select folks are allowed to post and display their images in a thread). Here is one: on Flickr - Photo Sharing! Panasonic G1, RayQual adapter Canon 50/0.95 @f/0.95, 1/20s (hand-held at around -5 degree C, thick foggy night exacerbated with fireworks smoke), ISO1250. Nothing to write about DR or noise.
scott kirkpatrick Posted January 13, 2009 Share #9 Posted January 13, 2009 I think the line (which is not that crisp) is that illustrations of a technical argument can be posted here. So side by side comparisons of a scene with two cameras at same ISO would be quite welcome. Posting a shot, however accomplished, in hope that someone will say "Awesome, Dude!", and another will echo, "Great Capture" http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/images/icons/icon7.gif is frowned upon. The moderator(s) will spirit such posts off to a photo exhibitionists' forum. scott (edit): and if you should choose to disassemble a Leica product or accessory and take extensive macro photographs of the resulting carnage, all such shots are welcome <G>. Vivek Iyer Posted January 13, 2009 Share #10 Posted January 13, 2009 Perhaps I should post a detailed illustration of how to make your own M4/3rds to Leica M adapter out of a 1955 OUFRO? (No, I won't.) I could care less if any brand of gear is favored or frowned upon. I have no interest in the marketing strategy of any company and am least interested in putting together a group of chums who would say, "great shot" (it is easy. been there done that, it didn't do anything for me).
