Overgaard Posted December 23, 2008 Share #1 Posted December 23, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't get it. The text reads: "The high-aperture, black, attachable viewfinder with a 24-mm LED display can be mounted on the flash shoe without utilising any electrical power. As a result, the camera can be used with outstanding success even in extreme light situations." When I saw it, it was simply a viewfinder with no light or anything inside it. Can anybody clarify this mystery? I've always, since I saw this viewfinder the first time, thought it was a great idea to have info inside it from the hotshoe as in a dSLR viewfinder. Advertisement Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Hi Overgaard, Take a look here 24mm viewfinder D-Lux 4 mystery. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted December 23, 2008 Share #2 Posted December 23, 2008 I think it's just a misprint. It has said that from the beginning. Now that someone has mentioned it online, maybe they'll fix it. Or maybe when you get the finder you should send it in for warranty repair, saying the LED doesn't work. The web pages describing the finder don't mention the LED: Leica Camera AG - Photography - LEICA D-LUX 4 Brilliant Viewfinder andor Leica Camera AG - Fotografie - LEICA D-LUX 4 Aufstecksucher That remark confused me when I first saw it as well. Tenor1 Posted December 23, 2008 Share #3 Posted December 23, 2008 My local camera shop didn't have them in stock. I just got a D4 on Saturday and wondered if I would actually use a viewfinder very much. Does a viewfinder add dramatically to composition? Thanks, Carlos Marqus
Overgaard Posted December 23, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted December 23, 2008 I would not do without a viewfinder but have considered if my 21mm could be used. I don't like using a screen but would prefer if there was a good viewfinder built in so as to make it a real pocket camera. As there's not, I think the external one is a great idea. Works fine on the M's. I saw the text in the beginning and then again today at Red Dot Camera's page.
intex Posted December 23, 2008 Share #5 Posted December 23, 2008 Has anyone used the Mini 28-35 Viewfinder from Voightlander?? Many have said that a 28mm works fine on the D-Lux 4, and this one is very small, just dont want to order it sight unseen without feedback first. Tenor1 Posted December 23, 2008 Share #6 Posted December 23, 2008 There is another thread here with someone saying he preferred a 21mm viewfinder for his D4. My shop doesn't know when they will get the Leica viewfinder and felt I wouldn't be happy with any of the others. I feel the same as intex about being hesitant buying sight unseen, no pun intended, lol. Did Panasonic make one for the LX-3 and is it a good one? ho_co Posted December 23, 2008 Share #7 Posted December 23, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Carlos-- Panasonic does offer a 24mm finder for the LX3, though I don't know whether it's already on the market. From what I hear, the Leica finder (and other accessories) should be available around February.
Overgaard Posted December 23, 2008 Author Share #8 Posted December 23, 2008 The 21mm Leica is magnificant and might do very well for the D-Lux if one can consider it "viewing the field outside the picture" as it's a 90 degree view. Only matter is price of both new and second-hand which is high (fortunately I have one). I wasn't aware the 24mm wouldn't be available till February, only that it's not available right now this second. When so long into the future, who knows if it has LCD display anyways ;-) According to earlier discussions on the page, the Panasonic should be a complete other deal than the Leica, "home made" by Panasonic so to say. mhoersch Posted December 23, 2008 Share #9 Posted December 23, 2008 Or maybe when you get the finder you should send it in for warranty repair, saying the LED doesn't work. And while you're at it you could mention that the camera doesn't produce DNG files either, as stated in the manual.
georgio Posted December 23, 2008 Share #10 Posted December 23, 2008 Leica and I find that it works great.. Actually the most important reason that I sold my D3, was the fact that I could use the finder. I find working on the LCD screen not very comfortable. Guest srheker Posted December 24, 2008 Share #11 Posted December 24, 2008 The 25mm Voigtländer VF is cheaper and available, so I bought one and it's great!
intex Posted December 24, 2008 Share #12 Posted December 24, 2008 Can u take a pix of it on the camera to see how large it is? Thanks
bradhusick Posted May 11, 2009 Share #13 Posted May 11, 2009 The regular Leica 24mm viewfinder (and 21) are too wide to the left and block the pop-up flash. The earlier post is correct - there are no LEDs in the viewfinder. I think what they meant is 1) the viewfinder requires no power, and 2) you can turn off the LCD on the back of the camera when using the viewfinder. strikkflypilot Posted May 13, 2009 Share #14 Posted May 13, 2009 The original Leica 24mm viewfinder for the D-LUX 4 does definitely NOT block the flash. I have one.
