Advertisement Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Hi Guest, Take a look here Olympus OM lens adapter for the M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lars_bergquist Posted December 3, 2008 Share #2 Posted December 3, 2008 I have one. It is made by Novoflex and it works very well. It is a low volume item however, and you may have to wait for a month or two if it is not in stock and a new batch has to be manufactured. ChrisC Posted December 3, 2008 Share #6 Posted December 3, 2008 I'm really curious. Presumably the OM furthest focus falls well short of infinity when in the lens mount adapter, so; practically speaking, how do you focus and use an OM lens in everyday situations? A good answer might tempt me into playing with some of my own ancient OMs. ............... Chris
ChrisC Posted December 3, 2008 Share #7 Posted December 3, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok, I have done my own homework and it seems the focusing is not a problem - so zone focusing is an option. Simon-Peter; you don't indicate where you are. Here is a UK alternative : http://www.srb-griturn.com/other-lenses-on-leica-m-rangefinder-196-p.asp B&H price is $272, SRB price is c. 93 UK pounds + VAT [not applicable outside Europe]. UK VAT rate is now 15%. SRB is one of those small concerns to make a note of. Hope this helps. ............... Chris
Guest Posted December 4, 2008 Share #8 Posted December 4, 2008 I did say where I am, Chris! Within a radius of a couple of hundred of kilometers around Solms it's a bit Gluewein-y for almost three more weeks. We just had "Weihnachtsessen" and that's about half of my yearly booze intake. Now you know. So much/little that I would just about not be permitted to drive in this country. Mind you, I think zero promille should be the world standard in traffic, outside of Siberia. Please let me understand, specially Lars, you actually having the Novoflex OM to Leica M ring: A) Does it focus on infinity or not? Is the lens stopped down by the Novoflex ring? Gnight! Guest Posted December 17, 2008 Share #9 Posted December 17, 2008 Got the Novoflex adapter and it's super with the 3.5/18 and a Bessa 25mm viewfinder on top (of the Chinese "hold your M8 as if it was analog", that fits into the hot shoe and is distributed here by LFI). Because of the 1.33 sensor of the M8 there's no need for the Oly lens-shade and a big 72mm IR filter. I simply put two 49mm filter frames without glass (the one sitting on the lens was adjusted by Mr. Summer of Heliopan, there is something's peculiar with the lens' filter thread) to overcome the curvature of the front lens and a 49mm IR on. The alternative would have been a blue dot 18mm, which I do not own. It would have required 58mm filters, Leica having the 55mm diameter... and maybe now bigger ones for the WA Summis with a price tag and an equally unattractive size. My question is: apart from feltpen and paper 6-bit, which is not what I'm looking for, there are 6-bit coded lens mounts, that I can buy and exchange for the one on the Novoflex adapter, with the presumed effect on the cam's software in terms of vignetting etc. Could please someone name a good one in the BIC+IBAN customs-free EC area, after good PERSONAL experience with the product and the distributor? And could I please have the data of the man everybody here refers to on a first name basis, being the best known one for this. I presume he's across the Atlantic. Thank you kindly! ljclark Posted December 17, 2008 Share #10 Posted December 17, 2008 From a purely aesthetic perspective, those OM lenses look nice on the M8. One tends to forget how sweet and compact the OM lenses were. Sigh.
Guest Posted December 17, 2008 Share #11 Posted December 17, 2008 I agree! Almost bought a 16mm fish-eye because of this. But I didn't find fish-eye pictures aesthetic during the last 35 years and won't change. And longer lenses than my 18mm require focusing. 2.0/21 or 2.0/24 always at infinity? For landscapes out of cars or trains maybe. Doing landscape while being very fast: a new challenge !

luigi bertolotti Posted December 17, 2008 Share #13 Posted December 17, 2008 I am a lot curios to see a pic taken with the 16 fisheye on M8... cannot imagine the effect considering the crop factor... does some of you have an example to post ? Guest Posted December 18, 2008 Share #14 Posted December 18, 2008 Übrigens bin ich der Meinung dass die M9 muss wettersicher sein (Cato Maior) good lars just said Yes and yes! Does anybody remember the mood 3 years ago? The question was what happens first: L going bust or M8 on the market? Then someone turned up and whatever's next, he entered history with the first serious digital rangefinder. Now after the midi-wonder a mini-wonder: there are hardware updates! Not a very frequent event and definitely not one of the most profitable ones. They only beg to know just how many really want it and set a dead-line for customers to make up their minds, so that planing when this ends can be made. I see a long and emotional thread (including my first reaction) and one would expect the huge call-center in Solms to be very busy because of the high number of people posting here calling them up. I just talked to a very charming and efficient lady and soon hopefully my digital Leicas will sound leica-like, too. I didn't know people in Wetzlar (or is it Solms?) before, while shooting for about 30 years with M, though they're not far from where I live. Because I never needed repair. Thought this is gear for picture taking and not... (Same goes for Nikon and Canon by the way, but I remember Hassi to be quite an experience). All I cay say is she sounded very much ok, like everyone doing a good job. Now I received my confirmation with the date, the price and the how-to. Santa just charged me 2 grand, but I didn't need to if I didn't wanted. Merry Christmas everybody!
exile Posted February 3, 2011 Share #15 Posted February 3, 2011 Please would someone post a picture taken with the 16mm fish on an M: any M, but preferably an M8 or M9? I have an OM 16mm myself, and wonder whether the high price of an adapter would be worthwhile. My widest lens right now is a ZM21, so I don't particularly NEED an ultra-ultrawide. Still, that 16mm was a nice lens for landscapes.
behirsch Posted February 5, 2011 Share #16 Posted February 5, 2011 I have never seen a description of just how the OM adapter works. Am I correct in assuming: (a) the OM lens will focus to infinity ( the adapter is not rangefinder coupled, so the user has to measure or guess the distance and set it on the lens scale © the adapter stops down the diaphragm (d) the focal length of the lens is not changed by the adapter? Which focal length lenses will work satisfactorily with the adapter?
