Advertisement Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Hi sharookh, Take a look here D-Lux 4 - sharp!!!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted November 26, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 26, 2008 Great shot, Sharookh! Autofocus? Or just careful attention to detail?
cfc247 Posted November 26, 2008 Share #3 Posted November 26, 2008 Yes, I agree! The dlux 4 lens is amazing. Hard to believe that it is a p&s. Many times the images rival or even surpass some DSLRs.
albert Posted November 26, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 26, 2008 "Many times the images rival or even surpass some" I totally agree but this fact is a perceived heresy found threatening to some.
cfc247 Posted November 26, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 26, 2008 Albert, I have also read some comments on the web on various sites where people constantly make an issue of the speed of the dlux4. I think comparing it to any dslr just goes to show you that it is not in the same league with other p&s(s) and a serious threat to some dslrs. I have used Canon p&s (including g9), had the dlux3, but the 4 is definitely in a class above the rest. This is just a jpeg taken on program mode. With the $150 rebate, there is no reason not to go for it! Welcome, dear visitor! cfc247 Posted November 26, 2008 Share #7 Posted November 26, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) wls, the image is just a plain jpeg from the dlux 4, shot in the "standard" mode with a slight adjustment in exposure in Lightroom.
JHAG Posted November 26, 2008 Share #8 Posted November 26, 2008 D-Lux 4 versus D-Lux 3 ? Really worth I sell mine to do the swap ? (I know Jim's work)
jrc Posted November 26, 2008 Share #9 Posted November 26, 2008 Does anybody know if the D-Lux 4 fits in the leather D-Lux 3 case? JC
cfc247 Posted November 26, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 26, 2008 jrc, the case does not fit the dlux 4. However, I have seen some hack jobs where people made wholes on the dlux3 case to fit the 4. The four has a bit wider body and two metal harnesses on the side instead of once, since the 4 comes with a neck strap rather than wrist.
sharookh Posted November 27, 2008 Author Share #11 Posted November 27, 2008 Great shot, Sharookh! Autofocus? Or just careful attention to detail? Howard - Auto / Aperture priority. This is a gem of a little camera! I am sure it will go the distance like the Digilux -2.
adan Posted November 27, 2008 Share #12 Posted November 27, 2008 Yeah, I was about to say....I think the D-Lux 4 is in many ways the "successor" to the Digilux-2. Limited zoom range, but FAST lens, and while it lacks a bit in the analog controls, the Barnack size and capability for a nice optical viewfinder (you can always find a couple of old 35 or 50 finders if 24mm isn't enough) are decent tradeoffs. dpreview just gave the Panny version kudos - put it up against the new Canon G10 and said it did BETTER at higher ISOs thanks to the lower pixel count and less heavy-handed noise reduction required. THAT'S something you normally don't hear in comparing Canon to Leica/Panasonic.
jackart Posted November 27, 2008 Share #13 Posted November 27, 2008 I also went from D-lux 3 to 4, mainly cause of F2 lens
Maggie_O Posted November 28, 2008 Share #14 Posted November 28, 2008 Looks like I'll have to retire my D-Lux 3.
