colour film processing

Hi,

After recently buying an old M3 DS (see my post under 'Leica Collectors & Historica' forum I have put the first roll of film through it. I use digital SLRs daily with my professional work and its so nice to go back to basics and shoot with one camera, one lens and one focal length! The focusing is not so quick but im sure I will speed up!

Where is the best place to get d&p for colour work? I dont want to start scanning my negs and sit infront of a computer fiddling with the images. Thats what I do during the week. I just want quality prints at an affordable price. Are there any good mail order labs or is Boots as good as anywhere?

Im well aware its not going to be as good as printing my own but the images are just memories and personal projects to go in albums etc.

Thanks,

Mark

Snappy Snaps are good (they should change their name, though, IMHO...) but if you go for the one hour service, it will cost you about £12 - more for a CD too.

Whereabouts in the country are you?

Andy

Where I am it's £6.99 for develop and CD and for every 10 rolls processed one free roll processed

Snappy Snaps are my choice. Good quality and nice prints (you can have gloss or matt and borders if you wish).

The last few films I took to Boots were dreadful, the scans were pretty much useless with all the dust/scratches (I realise service will vary branch to branch but Snappy Snaps are at least dedicated to photo processing).

Otherwise its one of the postal services - if you want to try your luck with the Royal Mail that is!

I live rurally in Nottinghamshire and was dissatisfied with all my local processors before going digital. Locals were OK for holiday snaps but I wanted more. The best results I had were by mail order from Peak Imaging in Sheffield. They do same day processing for E6, C41 and B+W. Will do almost anything you want with your material and the results are first class. Their website is Welcome to Peak Imaging . I have just enquired recently about digitising some very old B+W negatives, and that is no problem to them. They will include optimisation if I ask. I found it certainly worthwhile waiting a couple of days for the excellent results. In case of query when results are received, they are most helpful to discuss problems/solutions through their technicians (not just counter assistants).

I have used BONUSPRINTin it's many guises ( as BonusPhoto,DoublePrint,TriplePrint)in Borehamwood,Herts for many years for 6x4 prints and have got very good results, especially as I use mainly outdated film! I have some envelopes from Heathrow Airport which were on offer, doing 36 prints for £1-99 ! They still do it at that price too, but in the return envelopes their prices and postage have gone up. Then I do my 16x12" enlargements myself in my Nova unit with my colour LPL enlarger.
