Martin T-M Posted November 18, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 18, 2008 Ivan, superb car. Great color.
stuny Posted November 18, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 18, 2008 Ivan - The TD is a model MG, which this is, produced from 1950 to 1953. The TC was a bit smaller and spindlier, and just post WWII (1945), the first post war sports car. The TC, TD and Jaguar XK120 initiated the Yanks' interested in sports cars. iShutterbug Posted November 19, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 19, 2008 Stuart, Absolutely. In 1960 my first car was a 1959 MGA (with Judson blower, Nardi steering wheel, and Abarth pipes). I've owned several British marques, drove all over U.S. in my A-H 3000 two-seater, went to SCCA Driver's School in 1965 and raced a bug-eye Sprite (Class GP), later campaigned Lotus Super 7 and Elite. After I got married somehow I found his and her MGB-GTs in the driveway. Anyway, that's how I knew the TD.
stuny Posted November 19, 2008 Share #7 Posted November 19, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don - My first of probably too many cars was a '58 MGA coupe (roll-up windows, door locks!), in 1964, with a pair of Lucas Flame Thrower driving lights and a pair of thin, off-center white racing stripes. Since you had an "A" you no doubt got used to dodging puddles so that you would not get a jet of water on your calf from next to the angled frame piece in the footwell. iShutterbug Posted November 19, 2008 Share #8 Posted November 19, 2008 No, I never had that happen. But I did have the plexiglass sliding driver's side window open a couple of times sitting at a stop light next to a big puddle and some car would zoom through it and practically drown me with the spray. Just at the right angle. My MGA was black with red leather and white walls, thick black lacquer, the only black one I ever saw. I'll do a scan on an old picture one day and post it. azzo Posted November 20, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted November 20, 2008 Thank you all for looking, commenting and the explanations guys....appreciated. iShutterbug - For a moment, I thought that TD stood for Turbo Diesel - - -
Guest flatfour Posted November 20, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 20, 2008 It doesn't look like the original body to me, but I'm not an MG expert.
stuny Posted November 21, 2008 Share #11 Posted November 21, 2008 To me the body looks original, but the leather strap was added afterwards, as were the driving lights and badeg bar. The bumpers have been removed, too. I think the color is not an original one.
