mobeyone Posted November 16, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted November 16, 2008 Thanks JT, I actually meant sharpness over noise... as sometimes I feel that if sharpness is set at high this tends to compromise the image slightly if you know what I mean? John Thawley Posted November 16, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 16, 2008 I've been running my images through Noise Ninja's Aperture plug-in when needed. It's pretty amazing... especially if you take the time to create profiles for your camera.... which I recently did and got completely blown away by the difference. You download a "color grid pattern" from NoiseNinja's website. Now, get this, you open it on your monitor. Then take a photo of it (slightly out of focus), one shot for all of your camera's ISO settings... JPEG and RAW. Then you import those shots into Aperture. Once they're in Aperture, you "Edit" each one with Noise Ninja just as you would a photo. Once it is open, NoiseNinja automatically scans the image for noice and produces "default" settings. "Default" settings are settings specifically for that image and pull back to a "medium" setting. But understand, the sliders are "medium" relative to the scan it has just completed. And, this is always the case when you put an image through NoiseNinja. Now... with our test pattern images, instead of clicking "Reduce Noise" we click on "Create Profile." A SAVE dialog box opens and the default profile name will be pulled from the EXIF data.... so it will be Leica Digilux 2 100 ISO RAW. You then repeat this for each test pattern you created. Now, any time you have an image and you run it through the Noise Ninja plug-in it AUTOMATICALLY pulls up the appropriate profile as indicated by the image files EXIF. It automatically scans your photo... and you can except the defualts of the profile or adjust the sliders up or down to taste. That simple... BUT and amazing diference in the efficiency and accuracy of the plug-in. If you run low light, higher than you wanted to ISO photos through it you will be stunned. As you can imagine, this shot was noise just based on the situation... even at 100 ISO. Look for yourself... pretty nice, I think. JT
