ianho_ Posted November 13, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had this lens cap mod on my LX3 n I thought I'd implement it on my D-Lux 4 as well. It's very easy to do. I'll explain it as simply as I can. Instructions 1. Unscrew the lens cap ring on the front of the lens. It will now show a threaded ring around the lens. 2. Screw the Ricoh LC1 cap onto the threaded ring. It requires a lil bit of force as the LC1 is a bayonet mount. It will pop on quite easily though. Then all u hafta do is screw it tightly until it stops. The LC1 is now mounted securely on the camera. 3. U will need to add some double sided tape to the insides of the flaps to make them open up more to prevent vignetting at about 30-60mm. Just cut out a small 1cm square piece of double sided tape n pile on 3 layers. Now stick it on the inside of the flap where the spring is. Make sure u leave the wax paper on the last layer that contacts the lens barrel so the barrel can slide smoothly on the tape's back. Here's how it all looks like after the mod. No more annoying "Please remove cap n press >" message. Just switch it on n plaaaaaaaaaaaay. : ) Camera off or in Play mode. Camera on at 24mm default mode. Camera zoomed all the way to 60mm. No vignetting at all after modding the flaps. Without modding the flaps, they close down a lot more n u get vignetting coz the flaps close down almost all the way n all that's left is 3 small slits. rob_x2004 Posted November 13, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 13, 2008 Ahh no I coudnt:D. Just leave the cap off. This diatribe about the lens being fragile is too much. If the lens was that soft it wouldnt get a run on the camera. Davros probably has a patent on this...."Exterminate!"

intex Posted November 14, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 14, 2008 Has anyone else tried to install this on their D-Lux4 ? I wonder if it scratches anything on the camera, or is very well affixed to the lense? It sounds like a great idea.
ianho_ Posted November 15, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted November 15, 2008 Has anyone else tried to install this on their D-Lux4 ?I wonder if it scratches anything on the camera, or is very well affixed to the lense? It sounds like a great idea. The installation of LC1 on D-Lux4 doesnt scratch anything on the camera unless ur really ham fisted n not the DIY kinda person. Otherwise, it's a very simple 5 minute job. It fits perfectly on the camera n everything looks n feels as if it came from the factory just like that. Give it a try, the LC1 costs only $10 n 5 minutes of ur time.

h00ligan Posted December 24, 2009 Share #11 Posted December 24, 2009 I have already been tempted to do this mod due to HATING the fact we have a traditional lenscap on a PAS (poinless). However, my question is - how does this affect the picture when using the flash and set to widest shot? seems like it would cast shadows.
reeleviltwin Posted March 14, 2010 Share #12 Posted March 14, 2010 Can anyone tell me if this fits with the leica case for the Dlux 4?
farnz Posted March 15, 2010 Share #13 Posted March 15, 2010 Reeleviltwin, Welcome to the Forum! If you mean the Leica brown leather case where the D-Lux 4 slides in on the short end and the flap with magnetic clasp closes over the top, then yes it does. Pete.
