svenning Posted October 9, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted October 9, 2006 Dear Bruce, John and Al, Thank you all for your kind comments :-)) I have tried for a long time to take a portrait photograph of both my cats together, however it is nearly impossible to get them to look into the camera lens at the same time. So my wife was actually running around behind me when I shot the picture - and that made the cats look into the camera lens at the same time :-)) I wonder what the neighbours were thinking about us (?) All the best - Svenning, Denmark.
spylaw4 Posted October 10, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 10, 2006 Fab shot! It's almost as if it was one cat plus a mirror! Congratulations!
svenning Posted October 10, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted October 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear Brian, Thank you for your kind comments. The idea to the cat portrait came from this ash tray made by an unknown glass artist. All the best - Svenning, Denmark.

spylaw4 Posted October 11, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 11, 2006 By the way Svenning, why the name Minus?
svenning Posted October 11, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted October 11, 2006 Dear Brian, First we had thought about calling the cats "Plus" (+) and "Minus (-), however then my wife favoured the name "Felix" instead of "Plus" :-)) Anyhow - the cats reacts to their given names when we call at them :-)) All the best - Svenning, Denmark. svenning Posted October 12, 2006 Author Share #12 Posted October 12, 2006 Dear William, Thank you for your kind comments - eventhough you do not like cats :-)) I remember, that you were one of the Leica Forum members who advised me to buy the 60mm Macro-Elmarit - and I have to thank you very much for that advise :-)) The 60mm Macro-Elmarit gives the most correct colours that I have ever seen a lens produce (!) To all other Leica Forum members - I can strongly advise you to buy this lens - it is a gift from God :-)) All the best - Svenning, Denmark.
fotografr Posted October 12, 2006 Share #13 Posted October 12, 2006 That's really an excellent portrait of your cats, Svenning. I have two cats (nearly identical also) and know how hard it is to get them to cooperate. My congratulations to your wife for her efforts.
lambroving Posted October 12, 2006 Share #14 Posted October 12, 2006 Svenning, Agreed, it is one very special piece of glass and works for almost anything. Probably the reason Leica have not seen fit to update it for 30+ years. It works for landscapes too, but mine is used primarily for macro. You've seen what John Mead can do with it? I much prefer it's handling and rendition to the 100/2.8 APO.
beramos Posted October 12, 2006 Share #15 Posted October 12, 2006 Dear Svenning, I believe that their two marvelous cats have the same or equal quality that their 60mm. Macro Elmarit. Here we have the conjunction of three decisive factors: the objective, the cats and the photographer. Great shot.
svenning Posted October 12, 2006 Author Share #16 Posted October 12, 2006 Dear Brent, My wife says "Thank You". I had the camera on "continously shooting" and the shown picture of the cats was the best out of 50 pictures......talk about a lousy score rate :-)) All the best - Svenning, Denmark. svenning Posted October 12, 2006 Author Share #17 Posted October 12, 2006 Dear William and Bernardo, William - YES - I have seen John R. Mead's work with the 60mm macro-Elmarit and it was one of the reasons why I bought the lens. I know that John R.Mead also suggested that I should buy a Leicaflex SL2 camera together with the 60mm Macro-Elmarit, however I want the speed of digital photography - so I passed that option :-(( Again - William - Thank you for suggesting that I should buy the 60mm Macro-Elmarit :-)) Bernardo - Thank you for your kind comments :-)) All the best - Svenning, Denmark. lambroving Posted October 12, 2006 Share #18 Posted October 12, 2006 Svenning, There are several excellent reasons John suggested the SL2. I use an SL with a ground-glass screen. These are the brightest SLR viewfinders Leica made, so critical focus is easier, especially in my case, hand-held. The other reason is the rendition of this lens on the right film which can't quite be duplicated on digital sensors. I don't work THAT fast. In this location it took me two hours to shoot two rolls.... http://www.leica-camera-user.com/discus_e/messages/11/164853.html?1129479121
svenning Posted October 12, 2006 Author Share #19 Posted October 12, 2006 Dear William, What a fantastic flower picture (!) Why does Leica not make the bright viewfinders as on the Leicaflex cameras anymore? All the best - Svenning, Denmark.
lambroving Posted October 12, 2006 Share #20 Posted October 12, 2006 Dear William, What a fantastic flower picture (!) Why does Leica not make the bright viewfinders as on the Leicaflex cameras anymore? Because they were made by E. Leitz? Seriously, my guess would be cost and complexity of the optical system. Leicaflexes were all assembled by hand and adjusted to fit, just as M cameras all were prior to the M6. Seem to recall reading here, maybe from Doug, that the R8 - R9 was ~ 80% - 90% as good. Thanks for the compliment. Sometimes I get lucky. We Americans often believe in using overkill to make a point!
