Overgaard Posted November 13, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've missed this part, and noticed that Leica had updated their page again, and now one can download Erwin Puts' Lens Compendium articles when one go down in R-lenses in the Download section at Leica Camera AG - Downloads I've used these articles a lot to get an impression as to which editions of which lenses I should aim for. Advertisement Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Hi Overgaard, Take a look here Ewrin Puts Lens Articles/Compendium back on Leica's site. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
johnastovall Posted November 13, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 13, 2008 Rather useless for those wanting to know more about M-mount lenses.
john_newell Posted November 14, 2008 Share #3 Posted November 14, 2008 Rather useless for those wanting to know more about M-mount lenses. Useless in what respect? The Puts "book" certainly isn't the only thing out there to read, but it is worth reading.
Overgaard Posted November 14, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted November 14, 2008 Well, there's "M Lenses - Their Soul and Secrets" PDF file to be found in the same location of the Leica site. As for Erwin Putts, he's very stable in the sense that when you know how he writes and describes lenses, you can read between the lines. And what I mostly use his for, is determining which edition of a certain lens is the best.
johnastovall Posted November 14, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 14, 2008 Well, there's "M Lenses - Their Soul and Secrets" PDF file to be found in the same location of the Leica site. And what I mostly use his for, is determining which edition of a certain lens is the best. I have two copys of Puts book and consider him the source for information on Leica lenses. But where is this "M Lenses - Their Soul and Secrets" PDF. It's not under Rangefinder lenses or R lenses.
Guest WPalank Posted November 14, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 14, 2008 But where is this "M Lenses - Their Soul and Secrets" PDF. It's not under Rangefinder lenses or R lenses. I found it under category: "Lenses for Rangefinder Cameras". Subcategory: ""Summilux-M 35mm...." It's 83 pages and covers the majority of the M lenses. marknorton Posted November 15, 2008 Share #8 Posted November 15, 2008 It's hopelessly out of date and is of more interest to purchasers of secondhand lenses. More than half of the current lens lineup does not appear in the book.
stunsworth Posted November 15, 2008 Share #9 Posted November 15, 2008 Which shows just how much Leica has achieved over the last 7 years or so.
earleygallery Posted November 15, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 15, 2008 Didn't he have a rather public falling out with Leica a couple of years ago, vowing never to darken their door again? Glad they've made up anyway.

More than half of the current lens lineup does not appear in the book. Well, it is only as out of date as all those secondhand lenses...! In all seriousness, I think that's one of its major strengths. Not all of us go out and buy the latest ASPH version after Photokina. Heck, some of us don't even really want the latest ASPH version!
