New M8 Forum Suggestion

With real deliveries of the M8 soon - hopefully - I think it would be useful if there was a forum dedicated to the actual use of the M8 and getting the best from it. No speculation on blue dots, no hand wringing about which lenses to buy, just solid information on user experiences of actually using the camera.

I think we all will benefit from feedback and detailed information from the likes of Sean, Andy and Guy.

Ladies, Gentlemen,

why don't you approach one of your moderators (Andy, Franklin or Allan) and ask him to raise a poll? If there would be a clear majority for "PRO" (i.e. >2/3 with a minimum of 100 votes) we could organize within short hand.

best - Klaus

I think we do need a new forum -- perhaps not for the mechanical aspects, but for all the new software we'll be seeing with this thing. I've never used C1, for example, and I have to integrate it with my Lightroom workflow. I'm sure people who would like to use C1 (it's supposed to do great conversions from RAW) will also want to work out the most efficient workflows with Bridge, Photoshop, etc. To say nothing of the various noise reduction programs like Noise Ninja -- we'll have a lot of people, I think, who'll want to take this camera right to the edge of what's possible with available darkness (2500 & a Nocti) and who will be very interested in methods for controlling noise. And since this is a Leica forum, there may be a fairly large number of people just now coming over from film, who have never been through all of this. So...I'm all for a new forum, and one with an emphasis on software.

I have said this several times already that we need a post processing, color mangement forum . Now more than ever with the DMR and the thousands of new M8 owners coming on line that are new to digital need a place to gather the knowledge to work in digital. I have been in it for 12 years or more and there is a lot to learn to get the best out of those files. There is a serious learning curve. And this forum has some great experienced folks that can be a huge benifit. I plan on doing workshops but no way i can handle that kind of volume:D

Nor do I want too

Dream on ! What are your chances of not talking about lenses to buy Mark?

post processing, color mangement forum A good idea in a way but a comprehensive general digital forum is more fruitfull, this specialisation becomes pedantic in nature. It would be more usefull to have a place for links to postprocessing etc then one could head off to their area of need!!!!

I don't know -- this could be a *concept.* Rent the Cubs stadium, hook your Mac into the scoreboard, charge 20 bucks a head, set up a mosh pit for the B&W photographers...One tour, hitting the major league cities, and you could retire. Or buy the new Hassy, one or the other. 8-)

The Digital Forum should be set up like the Photo Forum as LCT suggests with sub forums. General Digital Talk. M8/DMR. D-Series/Compacts. This way posts for particular cameras don't get burried so quickly. It should make it easier to find the right post to answer questions.

Agree. I was kidding above sorry. Those who don't own a M8 (or a DMR, or a PanaLeica, or...) will not go to the related sub-forum and then won't be able to discuss common matters like lenses, sensors, AA filters, digital DoF and the like

Not quite sure. Such forum would be common to all digital users and could then be usefull IMHO.
