marknorton Posted October 6, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 6, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) With real deliveries of the M8 soon - hopefully - I think it would be useful if there was a forum dedicated to the actual use of the M8 and getting the best from it. No speculation on blue dots, no hand wringing about which lenses to buy, just solid information on user experiences of actually using the camera. I think we all will benefit from feedback and detailed information from the likes of Sean, Andy and Guy.
Advertisement Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Hi marknorton, Take a look here New M8 Forum Suggestion. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
grober Posted October 6, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 6, 2006 Thoroughly agree. When we get the production versions in our hands, individual findings should start flying thick and fast. A better way to share the knowledge will benefit all.
lct Posted October 6, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 6, 2006 Yes and another one for the DMR, a third one for PanaLeicas and a little one in a corner for those using Leica lenses on non-Leica bodies. What am i forgetting?
albertwang Posted October 6, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 6, 2006 Good, they finally got rid of the M8 forum... got tired of bouncing back and forth.
starwatcher Posted October 6, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 6, 2006 Ladies, Gentlemen, why don't you approach one of your moderators (Andy, Franklin or Allan) and ask him to raise a poll? If there would be a clear majority for "PRO" (i.e. >2/3 with a minimum of 100 votes) we could organize within short hand. best - Klaus
jrc Posted October 6, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 6, 2006 I think we do need a new forum -- perhaps not for the mechanical aspects, but for all the new software we'll be seeing with this thing. I've never used C1, for example, and I have to integrate it with my Lightroom workflow. I'm sure people who would like to use C1 (it's supposed to do great conversions from RAW) will also want to work out the most efficient workflows with Bridge, Photoshop, etc. To say nothing of the various noise reduction programs like Noise Ninja -- we'll have a lot of people, I think, who'll want to take this camera right to the edge of what's possible with available darkness (2500 & a Nocti) and who will be very interested in methods for controlling noise. And since this is a Leica forum, there may be a fairly large number of people just now coming over from film, who have never been through all of this. So...I'm all for a new forum, and one with an emphasis on software. JC
Guest guy_mancuso Posted October 6, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 6, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have said this several times already that we need a post processing, color mangement forum . Now more than ever with the DMR and the thousands of new M8 owners coming on line that are new to digital need a place to gather the knowledge to work in digital. I have been in it for 12 years or more and there is a lot to learn to get the best out of those files. There is a serious learning curve. And this forum has some great experienced folks that can be a huge benifit. I plan on doing workshops but no way i can handle that kind of volume:D Nor do I want too
Guest stnami Posted October 6, 2006 Share #8 Posted October 6, 2006 No speculation on blue dots, no hand wringing about which lenses to buy, just solid information on user experiences of actually using the camera. Dream on ! What are your chances of not talking about lenses to buy Mark? post processing, color mangement forum A good idea in a way but a comprehensive general digital forum is more fruitfull, this specialisation becomes pedantic in nature. It would be more usefull to have a place for links to postprocessing etc then one could head off to their area of need!!!!
jrc Posted October 6, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 6, 2006 I plan on doing workshops but no way i can handle that kind of volume:D Nor do I want too I don't know -- this could be a *concept.* Rent the Cubs stadium, hook your Mac into the scoreboard, charge 20 bucks a head, set up a mosh pit for the B&W photographers...One tour, hitting the major league cities, and you could retire. Or buy the new Hassy, one or the other. 8-) JC
gepetto Posted October 6, 2006 Share #10 Posted October 6, 2006 The Digital Forum should be set up like the Photo Forum as LCT suggests with sub forums. General Digital Talk. M8/DMR. D-Series/Compacts. This way posts for particular cameras don't get burried so quickly. It should make it easier to find the right post to answer questions. lct Posted October 7, 2006 Share #12 Posted October 7, 2006 Dream on ! What are your chances of not talking about lenses to buy Agree. I was kidding above sorry. Those who don't own a M8 (or a DMR, or a PanaLeica, or...) will not go to the related sub-forum and then won't be able to discuss common matters like lenses, sensors, AA filters, digital DoF and the like ...post processing, color mangement forum. A good idea in a way but a comprehensive general digital forum is more fruitfull, this specialisation becomes pedantic in nature... Not quite sure. Such forum would be common to all digital users and could then be usefull IMHO.
waterlenz Posted October 7, 2006 Share #13 Posted October 7, 2006 Having various sub-forms requires people to post in the correct one. This does not seem to happen - I recall many M8 threads in the generic digital forum during the existence of the M8 sub-form for example. Tom
leicapfile Posted October 8, 2006 Share #14 Posted October 8, 2006 I'd vote for: Leica Customer Leica Film Leica Digital Leica Lenses Leica Photos That should about cover it given the title of this site. Best, Jerry
