octo Posted October 31, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a slightly scratched collapsible Summicron 2/50 and it is coming back from Leica with an 80 € transport tag and a note saying they can't do anything... Not too happy about it. Any ideas where I could get another front element put on it reliably? Meanwhile, I intend to shoot it under adverse lighting conditions to test it. TIA
Advertisement Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Hi octo, Take a look here No luck on a collapsible 'cron 50 from Leica. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted October 31, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2008 No direct experience, but in the forum this english lab was quoted sometimes : LEICA - CAMERA REPAIRS & RESTORATION - LUTON , ENGLAND They, if I remeber well, are "old fashion" guys specialized in lens repolishing/repair and so... few people, long times to wait, maybe... Of course... keep in mind that a very good Summicron 50 collapsible can be found around 4-500 Euros...

TIA If it is slightly scratched then the scratches are unlikely to degrade the image. If it is one deep scratch and it did degrade the image then fill the scratch with matt black paint and the image degradation would probably be remedied but the lens front element would look a bit "different". If it is a lot of little cleaning scratches you might want to spend some ££ on having it professionally polished and recoated ... get in touch with Malcolm Taylor or OIB but it would probably cost at least £100. octo Posted November 1, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted November 1, 2008 Thanks for your answers. Actually, Malcolm has had this lens for a long time but couldn't get it fixed. I'll contact the Luton crew: they're highly spoken og in the Forum.

I faxed them this morning and got a reply 30' later! 12 weeks waiting list and the price is a bit steep but if that's the only way...
