Advertisement Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Hi dkCambridgeshire, Take a look here fotofixuk ... dealer recommendation sought. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted October 30, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 30, 2008 Dunk, I have no knowledge of FotofixUK but it appears to be a bricks and mortar business, which is a good start although the shop is only viewable by appointment so it might be run from home. You might like to give Plymouth Trading Standards a call to see whether 'FFUK' is known to them. I gave Foto-fix a roll in Companies House Online Search Facility but came up blank. FFUK still might be legit but it's not 'ticking all my boxes' yet. Hope this helps Pete
dkCambridgeshire Posted October 30, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted October 30, 2008 Thanks Pete. They don't tick my boxes yet either. I don't think the Trading Standards office would be of much help other than to confirm their existence as they do not comment on a trader's reputation. I would be a lot happier about approaching them if they published their actual names and photographs on their website together with their experience or resumés. Looking at their website I'm curious as to why they are listing 7 Contarex Bullseye cameras. Cheers dunk
ejd Posted October 30, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 30, 2008 Someone who used to work at Fotofix in Plymouth, I believe, is Mr Reg Smith, who has quite a reputation as a restorer of old camera cases. He also used to sell old cameras and things himself, and sometimes attends -- or used to attend -- the PCCGB Photographica fair in London. I have bought a few old cases, and cameras (mainly older folders) from him, and also had him repair some cases, and he is really excellent with the old cases. Also very reliable for cameras and so on. If Mr Smith was associated with Fotofix then I expect it is (or at least was and probably still is) a completely dependable shop.
