Ivar B Posted October 19, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 19, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I noted there is an MP3 kit for sale on eBay Leica MP-3 LHSA Chrome Kit - WOW - eBay (item 230301008580 end time Oct-21-08 08:39:22 PDT) Seller has no prior history of dealing with Leica, private auction, feedback history is for a load of junk, promises no VAT, etc. I am really surprised that people are bidding on this - it smells, if you ask me
Advertisement Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Hi Ivar B, Take a look here eBay - is this one real?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shootist Posted October 19, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 19, 2008 Funny the user is listed as being in the USA and the item is listed as being in the USA but it doesn't show up when doing a search for it in the USA only or when searching for it at all. There is only one listing for a MP-3 LHSA and that is from Best Camera Seller.
Ivar B Posted October 19, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted October 19, 2008 If you search using the item nr, it does show up. I can be mistaken of course, but there is something irrational when a seller gives away thousands of dollars by listing an expensive item and having no prior history, which of course discourages buyers. Had I been in this position, I would sell it through a dealer or an experienced eBayer.

Blue Posted October 19, 2008 Share #5 Posted October 19, 2008 in any case whoever he is and whatever he sells has a 91.6% rating, maybe not quite enough to spend is much money on an item. But maybe it is, who knows; only tht buyer when he/she receives the item.
Robert J Posted October 22, 2008 Share #6 Posted October 22, 2008 The iem was removed by ebay, presumably because the seller is almost certainly a scammer whose only interest is getting your money.
JHAG Posted October 22, 2008 Share #7 Posted October 22, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yeah there is something very funny about this listing. It does show when doing a Nr search but no where else. One of the signs of a scam, crystal clear. Also : - when country of item and country of seller don't match - when seller of Leica or expensive photo gear previously sold only Hello Kitty junk or McCain/Palin t-shirts - when auction time is very short (one day auction is typical) - when you send a message to seller through eBay messaging and receive the answer systematically from a personal address (which is no more personal than a piece of scrap metal on a junkyard) of the hotmail/f**ckmail type. - or (more sophisticated to detect) when you try type the name of the seller (let's say Sthan) and are guided on an entire different page (the real page of Sthan) where the item of the scammer does'nt appear. In fact, the scammer hijacked the page of a genuine eBay seller (namely Sthan, 100 % feedback, thank you ). For all these attempts of scam, I speak of experience. Nice people on eBay, but a lot of cutthroats too. Once upon a time, I tracked back their Internet headings and sent it to Interpol of FBI, but well, life is too short. Sandokan Posted October 25, 2008 Share #8 Posted October 25, 2008 Agree with Sthan and Ivar's senses. If it smells, it is rotten. But eBay is getting better with their technology to highlight suspicious sales and deal with them.
