I need some quick advice. I have an M3 & M8, and I need to buy my neice a combo birthday/christmas gift. So I was looking at some of these Leica compact cameras, does anyone have a favorite? She is in her 20's and has a small compact something. Thanks

i just bought the d-lux 4 - quite a nice little camera -small and pocketable (if youhave loose pockets= definitely purseable (if that is a word) i shot off 20 or so throw-aways and i was blown away with the quality.

i have a clux-1 very pocketable but definitely not in the d-lux 4 category i do not know if the current iteration of the clux (clux3 ) is better or not

I just had a look at the Canon G 10. I may buy two, one for my niece and one for me!!
Traitor.

I saw the Lumix DMC-FZ28K recently & I was impressed what you can get for $400. If she is into small & compact then at least the DMC-FX37K should appeal, see here

But maybe she deserves a Leica logo - if you like her, if not go ahead & buy the G10 thing :D

Take a look at the Ricoh compacts – they're well worth it. Lots of manual options if you want them, and the zoom range on the GXs is nice and wide.

I endorse Guy's comments. The Ricohs have a wonderful operational feel to them. More than the Lumix cameras, they give the impression that they are designed by practicing photographers. Just compare the space where your right thumb needs to grip! I wish that Leica had teemed up with them. Also, a few years ago Leica actually supplied a screw-mount lens from the Ricoh stable. They have much in common. But I still like my D2 and M6!

... and me, I love my Ricoh GRD, never seem to take it off 800 iso and the 'Snap' function is perfect in the street. I got it after being disappointed with the D-Lux 2. When travelling light I have GRD in one pocket and an XA in the other.

I got the bride a C-lux 2 and she loves it.

It's small, fits anywhere, and has a nice, optional case. It's a hit and takes great pix.

Why would you save money and buy a Pan version? :)

Seriously, either one. It's a honey.

Regards,
