saleaway1207 Posted October 4, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 4, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have recently purchased a Leitz Wetzlar Elmar 1:4/90 lens.Serial # 1827371. My question: Is this a presentable gift for a vintage camera - lens collector? I really want this gift to be a hit, as I owe this person a good one. Advertisement Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Hi saleaway1207, Take a look here Elmar 1:4/90 lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted October 4, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 4, 2008 It's from 1961, as am I. It would sit on my M2 very nicely. I'd be delighted with it as a gift. Question: Is the collector the sort of collector who puts stuff on a glass shelf and never uses his collection, or does he (for it's almost bound to be a "he" ) use his stuff as it was intended? If the former, he'd be looking for a mint copy. The latter, provided the glass is clean and not scratched or fungusy, and everything works on it, he'll be very happy. earleygallery Posted October 4, 2008 Share #3 Posted October 4, 2008 Hi, The f4 90 isn't a rare lens (although some versions are more sought after than others) but capable of excellent results if the glass is good. Assuming your friend doesn't already have one I'd think he would be delighted with it.
saleaway1207 Posted October 5, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted October 5, 2008 Well, I found out my freind does have one. What a bummer. I put the one I asked about on Ebay. I guess I will just have to go another route. Thanks
luigi bertolotti Posted October 5, 2008 Share #5 Posted October 5, 2008 Well, if your friend is a real collector, isn't easy to find the right gift... unless you decide that you owe him A LOT and find a rarity (but, at this point, the difficult part is finding one in "collector's conditions" matching your friend's attitude... for instance, I have decided that my rare items must NOT be in A/B conditions... but that is matter of taste). A quick advice : a Summarit 50 1,5... not too costly, and a lens of special taste... of course, verify before...
