Has Anyone Deferred a Purchase B/C of the Economy?

I have decided to enjoy the excellent outfit I have and wait for good deals on the remaining lenses I wish to pick up. The general attitude is to only incur debt when it's a "can't pass on it" deal.

Is anyone putting off purchasing photography gear, or even media, because of the worries over the economy, the banks, the stock market, etc?

Sorry Allan, but I don't think that the state of the economy affects your average Leica user as indeed it bypasses Solms.

Waiting patiently here to order my 2x S2 and at least 4 lenses.

I am reconsidering my travel plans for next year, even though it's my 25th Wedding Anniversary. We were planning to go to the States, but we most certainly will not be doing that now.

I don't need any photographic kit, so won't be buying anything on a whim.

Agree with my venerable friend here; when it comes to recession and belt-tightening, I'm bomb-proof, absolutely rolling in it! For every seller, there is a buyer.

S2? Bring it on! Run-out Bentley Azure limited edition? I'll take three.

I try to be sensible about buying gear, but sporadically suffer from what some amusingly refer to as GAS... Sometimes it's hard not to get 'distracted by bright objects'!

Perhaps I'll part ex. or sell bodies/lenses/accessories before different ones.

On the subject of GAS, I'd just like to say I'm really enjoying 'gassing' on this forum, what a pleasure it is to read such informed threads and to contribute occasionally, though I must admit I feel I'm getting far more from people's shared knowledge/experience than I'm able to give back! The acronyms and initialisms have often brought a smile to my face and I enjoy the like-minded joviality mixed with passion here:) - have come across other forums sullied by vitriol :( and decided to steer clear.

Thanks gentlemen and let's hope this economic downturn doesn't affect Leica and it's photographers too badly.

Definitely I have not deferred a Leica purchase because of the economy. I have decided against buying an M8.2 because of the framelines, and I wouldn't pay what Leica is asking for those new lenses even if I won the lottery. It's a fictional stereotype created by the have-nots that the haves are self-indulgent idiots (and I do not I class myself among the haves). The S2 sounds like a great camera for the few people whose needs it fits exactly, but for that money I would rather get a medium-format digital instead of something in-between...that is, if a 21-MP DSLR wasn't already more than enough.

I have rather the opposite question. Has anyone had any trouble selling s/h equipment because of the economy?

I have a lens I had intended to sell three months ago. Then I suddenly had to send it in for service, because, well, you know. I just got it back. Things were considerably different three months ago.

Don´t worry, the price of used Leica lenses seems to be the same as three months ago. I have sold (and bought) lately.

Framelines and framelines everywhere.

maybe you need make custom framelines yourself.

it is easy put m8.0 framelines on m8.2

Well I've never done it, so I suppose if you have then you know. I do know that they charge $800 to put M8.2 framelines in an M8. But if Leica offers to put the M8 framelines in an M8.2 at no cost, I know right now eight people besides me just from this forum who contacted me offline that they would buy one, who otherwise won't.

One frameline each is no good for you at all. You need all of them done.

Why, what's wrong with them?

Nothing and everything, depending on your needs. That's why Leica should have them, but as an option. There are some features where it's inevitable that Leica has to make a choice and drive away a certain number of customers. This doesn't appear to be one of them. It's a perfect opportunity for them to satisfy the people who were unhappy with the traditional framelines without losing the people who weren't unhappy. All they have to do is make one or the other style of framelines a dealer-installed special-order option on the M8.2. If I could tell my dealer to get me an M8.2 from Leica-USA with the M8 framelines, for the same cost as a stock M8.2, I would have no beef at all.

So far it hasn't affected my photo-related purchases.

But I had been thinking of buying a car, but realized that I could not raise enough cash, because one of my mutual funds bought into Countrywide Financial, and I think you can guess how THAT's doing right now.
