awolf Posted September 28, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) A short European trip. Many of the morning/noon shots were done with the new Zeiss 85/2 (You can tell by the “0” focal length info) . This lens is turning out to be the best lens Leica never made. Zenfolio | awolf | UK, Paris, DK 2008 ...but they made and make excellent 90s... : for me, the best they never made is the CV 15 4,5... with a bit of Leica mechanical excellence, I think thay would have sold a lot at 6-8 times the CV price... bill Posted September 28, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 28, 2008 Interesting and thought-provoking question, and I am with Luigi on this one. The 90 Summicron has to be tried to be believed, and the 2.8 is a winner too. My vote would actually be a modern collapsible Summicron - the Elmar-M was (and is) superb but the extra speed would be most welcome at times. Now. What on Earth is this doing in the M8 ghetto...? 4X5B&W Posted September 29, 2008 Share #7 Posted September 29, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Nice images, didn't look at the lens info on all of them, just the ones I liked most. Interestingly the ones that really grabbed my attention were all shot with a 50m 1.4, not sure which one, but they are my favorites. The Zeiss 85 while having excellent colour and contrast, seems to have a busy OOF image, see image #33 for example. So, the 50mm........which one? Some look like the Pre-ASPH and others look like the ASPH, maybe you used both
abrewer Posted September 29, 2008 Share #8 Posted September 29, 2008 Best lens never made? Mmmmm....that would be the 48mm f7.2 Northern Hemispheric now, wouldn't it?
john_f Posted September 29, 2008 Share #9 Posted September 29, 2008 The best lens Leica never made is ... the next one they announce ... And judging by the all projects that Leica has in mind, the next few months will be filled with surprises! New AF lenses for the Leica R10, a potential cine camera with lenses to compete with Zeiss`s UltraPrimes, not to mention all the new lenses for the fantastic S2. But as Conrad pointed out very correctly, the two best Leica lenses ever made are most definitively the APO-Summicron-R 180mm and the APO-Telyt-R 280mm f4. Unless of course Leica gives us a brand new AF APO-Summicron-R 180mm Asph ... The great thing about Leica is that we can always dream big ... Cheers, John F.
