vertekijker Posted September 24, 2008 Share #21 Posted September 24, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I held it in my hands today. Even though it is heavy, it sits beautifully in the hand. Gorgeous thing... Curious about the test results. ------------------ Frans
Advertisement Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Hi vertekijker, Take a look here New Noctilux . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted September 24, 2008 Share #22 Posted September 24, 2008 I fully expected the new lens to draw differently than the non-aspherical version, and think the sample image shows some pleasant qualities. This definitely indicates a signature more aligned with the Summilux 50mm ASPH. I agree that we really do want see shots from the the prooduction versions of the and that examples shot on film are important to understand the new designs vingetting properites. Mostly though, I look forward to seeing more examples. True... this 21K jpg is not so significant a proof... imho, they could even tried to find a better subject... this pic surely doesn't make everyone think something like "oh, what a dream lens !!!" fastdap@mac.com Posted September 24, 2008 Share #23 Posted September 24, 2008 Why make comparisons? Yes, it is a fast 50, but a completely different design, a different lens. The question is, does the lens do what you want it to do? Does it create the images that make you and others happy or profitable. This we will have to wait and see. Of course it is also justifiable to just want it, why not if it can be afforded. What we do know is that the magic of the F1.0 will NOT be duplicated, and it need not be, it already exists, there are plenty. I look forward to the 0.95 but not to replace anything, just to supplement. But then again, I still love the Summar, a lot.
marknorton Posted September 24, 2008 Share #24 Posted September 24, 2008 The old Noctilux has the longest focus throw of any lens but the action is sticky, mine went back to Solms three times before it was acceptable. Part of the problem is the weight of the moving part of the lens. The new lens has a much shorter focus throw and a much smoother action, both of which will make it easier to use. peter_n Posted September 24, 2008 Share #26 Posted September 24, 2008 Is a much shorter focus throw a Good Thing in a lens that is tough to focus? I've actually been thankful for the longish throw on the pre-ASPH Noctilux.
mikel Posted September 24, 2008 Share #27 Posted September 24, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just use a Nikon rangefinder for awhile with it's 270 degree throw, and you'll appreciate how short the throw is on the old Noctilux.

I've actually been thankful for the longish throw on the pre-ASPH Noctilux. Peter: In my line of work (documentary wedding photography), I need to be able to focus as fast as possible since I don't want to miss a fleeting moment... While I am pretty good focusing the existing Nocti (with the help of the STEER), I always welcome any help I can get and not having a huge throw is definitely a plus... Guest DuquesneG Posted September 25, 2008 Share #29 Posted September 25, 2008 I'm fortunate to be in a position to recover my investment on my first wedding commission. Cheers, I should say so. We have 4 daughters, all married, and I didn't spend $10K for photography on all 4 weddings. I daresay the number of wedding photographers who command upwards of $10K for a job are in a tiny minority, although as I now think about how rich people are always trying to out-brag each other as to how much their childrens' weddings cost them, I suppose there are enough such photographers to account for quite a few Nocti. thrid Posted September 25, 2008 Share #30 Posted September 25, 2008 The new lens has a much shorter focus throw and a much smoother action, both of which will make it easier to use. That's good news. One of the reasons why I sold my Noct was that the long focus throw was long. While this made for extremely accurate focusing, it was a real draw back if you were trying to react quickly. I ended up with a pre-asph 50 Lux, which has a very short throw, as it was designed for reportage work.
