ssimoncini Posted September 22, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everybody. I recently bought an M4 for "sentimental" reasons.. it used to be the first camera I ever used back in the 70s, that's why. The camera is perfect in every aspect except one thing... if you look through the small rangefinder window in the front of the body, keeping the camera against a light background, you can see what it seems a dark brown spot on the small circular lens inside. Although you cannot see anything wrong while focusing and the RF is quite clear, I wonder if it could be cleaned/replaced by a service center. Has anyone experienced this kind of problem? thank you in advande for any answer have a good day
Advertisement Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Hi ssimoncini, Take a look here M4 Rangefinder. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michael Hiles Posted September 22, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 22, 2008 My M2 (same viewfinder) has no such dark spot - but I never looked before. If it works well when looking through the normal eye peice at the back and focuses well - why spend money to fix something that doesn't matter to taking pictures. alifie Posted September 23, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 23, 2008 I'm with Michael here, it won't affect the pictures, anyway if you do want it cleaned it is a simple 'top off' job should not cost a lot.
luigi bertolotti Posted September 23, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 23, 2008 Probably, as other have said, there is no reason to make a cleaning just for this, but, given that your M4 has been just bought, and that you are in Tuscany, not far from Liguria... , if you like to send it to SAM.CA of Genova, they can make a good general revision (shutter times, rangefinder, cleaning...) that is surely worth its cost, expecially if you want to use it (I used a M4 for 25 years about...) Thank you Luigi. That is exactly what I had in mind.. maybe a little trip to Genova (always woth a visit IMHO) to collect the cleaned camera at the end of the process!
