kenneth Posted September 21, 2008 Share #21 Posted September 21, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I picked up some Kodachrome 64 for my next overseas project. Can anyone tell me the status of Kodachrome 64? Is Kodak still making it, is there a drop-dead day of production, etc.? Thanks in advance. As far as I know they are although I do not think it is as good as Kodachrome II 25asa which I am informed is still made for the US market. Also Kodachrome is guaranteed colour fast for 100 years for archival purposes.

Unfortunately, that is not the case-it is definitely discontinued. It would be preferable for it to remain as a premium niche product rather than discontinue it- perhaps Kodak can sell the manufacturing equipment to, say, a Chinese group, who could continue to supply and process it (China Post International is excellent, btw). I too have slides from my father's time, over 50 years old, which are still as good as new. I also think a bit of promotional activities based on the 75th anniversary would not go amiss. svante Posted October 2, 2008 Share #24 Posted October 2, 2008 Today, 2 October, I received a K64 film that I put in the mailbox here in Sweden 22 September. Considering the roundtrip the film has made I think the turnaround time for this one was really great. On the other hand I am still waiting for the film that I sent 17 September. Not a disaster yet, but – go figure.

I used Kodachrome II 25 asa almost exclusively for over 30 years and those nice people at Hemel Hempstead never lost a film so best of luck
razerx Posted October 3, 2008 Share #26 Posted October 3, 2008 I agree it becomes well travelled but 5 weeks in this instant world? Just seems excessive to me. Mike I don't mean to cause you any anxiety but when I was using the mailers the film would travel from HK to Switzerland to US to Switzerland to HK but didn't take more than 3 weeks. john51 Posted October 8, 2008 Share #29 Posted October 8, 2008 Photoglossy here in the UK are doing a special price on K64 at the moment-You can pick it up at Photoglossy for £6.85 a roll at the moment- must be a bargain! That includes P&P in the UK. PhotoGlossy.com (I have no connection with this firm) I think Dwaynes is the only lab that can process Kodachrome now, I live in the UK, and I usually have to wait 3-4 weeks for it to do it's round trip, from here to Switzerland, then over to USA, back to Switzerland, then home again! All of you guys out there, please use more Kodachrome, don't let it die! Kind Regards, John.

This thread especially have made me want to try the Kodachrome 64 as long as it's still possible. So I went to the local photography shop here in Lausanne and asked for it. They had it still few rolls but the price was 45,- swiss francs! That's about £22 and it doesn't include processing! So £6.85 sounds for me like a bargain. It seems I have to order it outside Switzerland. Regards, Miika
ChadHahn Posted October 9, 2008 Share #31 Posted October 9, 2008 Sorry Wilfredo, I picked up my latest roll of Kodachrome from Wal*Mart two days ago. Generally, that's the only reason I go in there though. The price for developing a 24 exposure roll was $3.88! Since I bought the film short dated for $2 a roll it's cheaper to do slides than prints. I think when the Tri-X is finished in the M6 I'll put another roll of K64 in. Chad

About three weeks turnaround time - not too bad, but I keep wondering about the principles behind the logistics. Changes between FIFO and LIFO at random times? KM-25 Posted October 11, 2008 Share #33 Posted October 11, 2008 In just 17 days, B&H photo in NYC sold over 1,000 rolls of K-64. They are now out of it in consumer version. I will be interested to see how much they get back in stock and what the expiry is. Were doing great folks, keep shooting it and they will make another master roll getting up into 2010, the 75th B-day of Kodachrome.
tgray Posted October 11, 2008 Share #34 Posted October 11, 2008 KM-25: I shot three rolls of Kodachrome in Paris the other week for you. One each of 25, 64, and 200.
Agent M10 Posted October 14, 2008 Author Share #35 Posted October 14, 2008 Wilfredo, I took a roll over to Wal-Mart and it was $4.88 to develop. Back within 5 days. Can't complain with that at all. While I'm not a Wal-Mart fan, I appreciate the fact that it is continuing with K64 processing. From what I understand CVS pharmacy (in the States) does the same thing - sends it to Dwayne's. andybarton Posted October 14, 2008 Share #36 Posted October 14, 2008 WalMart don't do the processing themselves, of course. They are just receiving agents for Dwaynes.
Agent M10 Posted October 23, 2008 Author Share #37 Posted October 23, 2008 We just got back a ton of Kodachrome slides (Wal-Mart) and they have the rounded corners. Is there any way that Dwayne's does the slides with regular corners? That would make scanning much easier and without cropping.
tgray Posted October 23, 2008 Share #38 Posted October 23, 2008 You can ask them not to mount them. The stuff the negs into a little cardboard tube. I didn't like this since one of the tubes got squished in transit and that roll has creases on it. But it can be done.
Agent M10 Posted October 23, 2008 Author Share #39 Posted October 23, 2008 Thanks - I'll probably just let them mount them - easier for me to store that way.
ejd Posted October 25, 2008 Share #40 Posted October 25, 2008 7dayshop.com - Online shopping made easy ! is offering Kodachrome 64 for £6.40 a roll (processing inlcuded). I could not resist and bought another 20 rolls.
