wizard Posted September 17, 2008 Author Share #21 Posted September 17, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) The new 24mm Elmar has only one aspherical element... Correct. It has two aspherical faces though. I mixed that up.
Advertisement Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Hi wizard, Take a look here Comparison 3.8/24 and 2.8/24 lenses. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted September 17, 2008 Share #22 Posted September 17, 2008 I consider buying a wider than my 28 'cron asph lens but feel the spread between f 1,4 and 3,8 is too much. Same goes for the price which for the new 'lux doubles that of the 2,8 Elmarit asph. H. I was also waiting for an affordable wider than 28mm lens. Since a 24 is too close to 28 i waited for a small 21 and felt some disappointment, when only the huge and very expensive Summilux was announced. But perhaps we see a 21-Elmar later. Even if the new Summiluxes are very expensive they do not exceed the usual categories of Leica prices. The 24-Elmarit costs 3000,- the 21 costs 3200,-€, so the new Summiluxes are well below doubled prices. The 28-Summicron costs twice as much as the Elmarit, and gives you only one stop more. If the new Summiluxes show the same quality as the 28-Summicron they will not be overprized by Leica-Standards - even if they remain extremely expensive. It is the price of the Noctilux which drops out of any standards and relations to the other lenses, though this lense's ratio is just luxury. P.S: Funny, when you look for the technical sheet of the new 24-Elmar on the Leica Website you find the good old 50-Elmar. Somebody must have had some nostalgical feelings when he put it there. Kasimir Posted September 17, 2008 Share #23 Posted September 17, 2008 The 28-Summicron costs twice as much as the Elmarit, and gives you only one stop more. the 28/2.0 costs 6000€? are You sure??
stunsworth Posted September 17, 2008 Share #24 Posted September 17, 2008 In the UK, 28mm Elmarit = £1029, 28mm Summicron = £2049. So the Summicron is twice as expensive as the Elmarit. Not sure where the 6000 Euros came from unless you think the original poster was refering to the 24mm Elmarit, which I don't think he was.
Hakku Posted September 17, 2008 Share #25 Posted September 17, 2008 the 28/2.0 costs 6000€? are You sure?? I didn't say that. I was indeed talking about 24 mm and compared the new Summilux (abt. 5000 €) to the Elmarit (abt. 3000 €), so it's only 67% more. But, by error I used the old price for the Elmarit which was 2595 € before the last increase, therefore wrongly concluded that the S'lux will sell at (nearly) 'double' the price of the Elmarit. I hope everybody whom I irritated with my post will forgive my error. BTW, I do not dispute the price spread for two stops more open, it was just for comparison. H. Kasimir Posted September 17, 2008 Share #26 Posted September 17, 2008 I'm relieved. I thought Leica put a new pricetag on the 28/2.0.
Chuck Albertson Posted September 17, 2008 Share #27 Posted September 17, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I also use the 24/2.8. It is an incredible lens and one you do not hear too much about on this forum. I sincerely hope that Leica don't discontinue it, and also to be honest don't really see the point of the new slower 24mm. You hardly ever see them on the used market. When the M8 came out, I had to fend off a lot of offers for my 24, from people who wanted a 28-equivalent for their M8. A cheaper 24, even a bit slower, might sell well to that crowd. Hakku Posted September 17, 2008 Share #28 Posted September 17, 2008 Ewald, the confusion seems to be due to a mix-up in quoting my post and the foregoing post from UliWer (#22). Regards, Horst
leicamr Posted September 21, 2008 Share #29 Posted September 21, 2008 I hope Leica retain the 24 f2.8 in the line up. After all they have the 3 50's in the line up (0.95, 1.4 and f2). Mark
