Judging by the response - I truly wonder! I always felt it was the M6 - till now. And no, I don't have one. It's the M8/M6 combo for me, thanks! Adrian Lord Posted September 14, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 14, 2008 It is the zenith of film cameras. Everything you require and nothing superfluous. Total creative responsibilty rests with the user. Only thing that lets it down is the nasty plastic ASA dial on the back.
antistatic Posted September 14, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 14, 2008 Only thing that lets it down is the nasty plastic ASA dial on the back. It should be hand carved from a block of solid ebony.
atournas Posted September 14, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 14, 2008 It should be hand carved from a block of solid ebony. Well, not necessarily, it only just could have been the old one found in M6. Paul

I own a number of Leica analog and digital cameras (including M6 and MP) and every time I wonder about their replacement, once they break down for good, I do that for all but for my M6 and MP. Perhaps an issue for my grand grandchildren. Paul

Judging by the response - I truly wonder! I always felt it was the M6 - till now. And no, I don't have one. It's the M8/M6 combo for me, thanks! In a word, yes. If I could have only one camera and the lenses for it, I would keep my MP & lenses. The MP is not the setup for wildlife where you need a 600mm f/4 and a pro 35mm or digital SLR body, nor is it the setup for macro work (the 200mm f/4 micro from Nikon is the king of macro). It is not the best camera for panoramic work (perhaps the Hasselblad X-pan II or the Fuji GX617 is the Lord of panos). But beyond that, the MP and a few well chosen lenses will do just about anything else and do an outstanding job of it. JMHO, based on my experience. mindlessdocumentation Posted September 16, 2008 Share #8 Posted September 16, 2008 I'd say MP if you couldn't buy about three M6 bodies for the price of one...
JBA Posted September 16, 2008 Share #9 Posted September 16, 2008 is the Leica MP the king of all Leica cameras - today? Absolutely. The build quality and responsiveness are both noticably superior compared to my M6. Add the coated viewfinder and rangefinder windows and the complete lack of branding on the front of the body, and I have to agree with what One Pic a Day said about it being "the pinnacle of rangefinder evolution." That said, the M6 is a magnificent camera and much more affordable.
MPerson Posted September 16, 2008 Share #10 Posted September 16, 2008 Guess I won't be starting a ' I love my CL ' thread then.....probably wouldn't make it into double figures:o Andy we don't need to - we know;) My CL often accompanies my MP, one loaded with fast film the other with slow. Best of both worlds.
