It sounds like a threat to me.

Of course not, don't be silly. "Becareful" doesn't have to be a threat.

Anyhow, I think Alex is just annoyed because his prediction of a 28mm Summilux didn't come to pass - for now at least ...

No way, man. This isn't the first time a Leica prediction of mine flops. I just don't seem to be able to get into these people's heads. I'm very good with lens signatures but useless at predicting what Leica will or will not do. I just do wish they do something about their quality control and customer service.

What I was annoyed about was the tone that prediction thread took on occasion: Mr. so-and-so said, Mr. this-and-that insinuated, all that Solms bullshit when they can't get their act straight. I'd also prefer if this forum didn't try so hard to be some kind of "official" Leica site and just loosen up a bit. That's all.

... A quote from that thread...

No need, I remember.

Can't win 'em all.

Of course not.

Depending on the camera and finder options: With an M8 yes!

I know the M8 has framelines for 24mm, but I want to know if, in practice, the M8's viewfinder is useable. The 24mm's hood may block a large part of the viewfinder... (I don't know...).

I tried it yesterday at Photokina and think it's fine, certainly better than the hood of the 24mm Elmarit. The new lens is somewhat longer (just as the WATE is) which moves the hood forwards and the hood itself is the right size for the lens, not borrowed from the 21mm.

The Noctilux was also fine.

Some people handled the Summilux 24mm...

My question is: Can it be handled without an external viewfinder?

I've used the 21mm Summilux on an M8 without the viewfinder. No problems at all as the screen confirms the framing and quickly educates you into what the coverage is.

For precise framing you might need the VF, but that's obvious. For street work, I'd leave the VF off.

Very . Thank you Mark!

Funny. I lifted this from the David Farkas blog. Discussion with Peter Karbe ...

"First, we discussed the new lenses. The 24mm Elmar is quite possibly the best performing 24mm they have ever made. The MTFs are just stellar from wide-open on. Apart from the 2/3s of a stop, this new lens trounces the legendary 24 Elmarit."
