Talk me out of it

I'm in the process of revamping my web site and as always I review all my pictures deciding which ones to put up and which ones to dispose of.

This is not the first time, though, that when I review my frames that some of the film captures I took with the M6 which owned for about 6 months really stand out. I know this is not logical, after all I sold the M6 to help purchase my M8.

Still, I'm really getting a hankering for having a film camera again.

Somebody talk me out of it before I act on the impulse!

Louis,

if you want talking out of it maybe post this on a Canon forum:D

Seriously, go get a CL at half the price and enjoy a superior shooting experience with the same glass.

Let us know how long it takes before you make that call;)

Funny you should mention it because I was actually looking at a Minolta CLE. If I recall the mythology correctly this is the camera which was so like a M7 that Leica wanted it killed off. The only question I have concerns reliability.

I've had mine for years, no problems whatsoever. Great little camera, although focussing accuracy is somewhat limited due to the small rangefinder base length. Still use it occasionally, and it performs well. An M-Leica is an M-Leica, however, if you know what I mean ... :)

Cheers,

all right. you made the move from analog m6 to digital m8, and you're taking great pictures with it. so why on earth would you take a step backwards and return to film? are you nuts???

by the way, i felt i needed a backup camera for my m8 and wanted to stay with the same lenses. soooooooooooooooo, my new/old m3 just arrived in the mail. beat up, dented, totally mechanical, handles perfectly, quiet, with jewel-like precision evident throughout. :D

good luck with your decision. (there's a nice looking MP for sale in the forum right now ..........................)

cheers

Louis,

You know it makes sense.

Film is just 'different' and so is the feel of a film Leica. Our senses play an important role in the making of an image, and that's what you are probably noticing when you look at those old photos.

So which one is it going to be?......

had mine CLA'd and its sweet as an M6 with better metering and user friendly.

I have no issues whatsoever with focus even tho the rangefinder base is shorter.

Whatever......lots of good mechanical film cameras out there for small potatoes.

enjoy the hunt

Very eloquently put. I think you've hit on what it is I feel when I see some of my film captures. As to which camera, I'm leaning towards a M4-2 or M4-P with a Leica meter of some kind?

Any advice on that sort of choice?
