mat_mcdermott Posted September 28, 2006 Share #41 Posted September 28, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Am only getting gibberish when I try to bring up the DNG photo of the young lady. What gives? Has it been removed? Can someone post it in a way that it can be retrieved still? Ed For some reason the file had .txt after the .dng tag. Download the file and remove the .txt part and it will be properly recognized.
Advertisement Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Hi mat_mcdermott, Take a look here M8 DNG Available. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Bob Ross Posted September 28, 2006 Share #42 Posted September 28, 2006 Hi There - this is my first post, so hello everybody!Like everybody else I've downloaded the DNG file of the girl, I've also processed it in CS2 and printed it at A3 size - it certainly looks splendid. jono slack Howdy Jono, Glad to see you 'round here. Well, the proof is in the print and knowing what you expect from a print, your evaluation is good to hear. I haven't fooled with the image yet, but judging from what others are showing, I don't think we'll have any image problems. Just what I expected:D Bob
jscottyk Posted September 28, 2006 Share #43 Posted September 28, 2006 Is anyone else having an issue with C1 LE opening these .dng files? I just downloaded the latest trail version (v3.7.5) and when I try and open the files the are grayed out. Scott King Austin, Texas

As for the M series, my only claim to be here is that after an afternoon with an MP I've ordered an M8 - still struggling with the lenses to go with it though! Thanks for posting (and yes, the print is the dog's doodah's) kind regards jono
baloo Posted September 28, 2006 Share #45 Posted September 28, 2006 Here it is with Capture One Hi what setting did you use in C1pro cause I’m not getting the same...? Sharpness and color Thanks, Steve
baloo Posted September 28, 2006 Share #46 Posted September 28, 2006 Speaking generally, if a person did happen to have to have a RAW file from an M8 I would *strongly* recommend converting it in C1 before forming any opinion about it. Just because a program can convert a given file doesn't mean that it will do it justice. You know...again, just generally speaking. Cheers, Hi Sean, you right I’ve try with Lightroom and it’s not the same image at all than in C1pro...
nemeng Posted September 28, 2006 Share #47 Posted September 28, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know this must be the Defacto Capture-One Kool-Aid Drinker's Society, but please keep in mind there are plenty of RAW Converter alternatives in the market place! The software I used this morning worked fine. The results are every bit as colourful, noise free and high definition as the Brand We All Use 'Round Here :?) So, broaden your horizons. Please. BTW, now that the rat's out of the bag, can those who have taken more than two photos with the M8 post their DNG files? When does the image-embargo expire anyway? Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 28, 2006 Share #48 Posted September 28, 2006 Just a FYI From many users from the DMR , they number one DMR out of the box best was C1, than there are some players in there that many have liked . Mac users raw developer by Irident is very good. Silky Pix, RSP was very good and now you can find all those features in Lightroom which i have been playing with and very nice indeed. Of course Flexcolor but M8 users won't be using that.Than there is ACR and Photo Elements which i know no one has used but it's there . Not sure if it will or will not support the M8. My favorite and always was came from Phase One and is C1 or more like Capture One. they changed there names as fast as MF companies get bought. Try some but you will come back to Capture One it is simply the most mature Raw processor out there and seems the best out of the box raw processor , i work for none of them. Many have demo trials so give them a try and see what fits your style and workflow.
sean_reid Posted September 28, 2006 Share #49 Posted September 28, 2006 I know this must be the Defacto Capture-One Kool-Aid Drinker's Society, but please keep in mind there are plenty of RAW Converter alternatives in the market place! The software I used this morning worked fine. The results are every bit as colourful, noise free and high definition as the Brand We All Use 'Round Here :?) Andrew, I have no affiliation at all with Phase One but there are good reasons why many working professionals use the program. RAW converters are not all the same nor do they necessarily produce the same results. I say this having been an early beta tester for two other prominent programs. Of course there are alternatives and many of them are interesting and useful but the enthusiasm many of us have for C1 is neither random not the result of inexperience with other options. Not sure how Kool Aid figures in to all this, there be mysteries. Cheers, Sean

As for the M series, my only claim to be here is that after an afternoon with an MP I've ordered an M8 - still struggling with the lenses to go with it though!jono Hi Jono, Even after collecting a small batch of lenses, I am also still struggling with lenses:D I think my approach has changed over time, so it will be fun to see what becomes my favorite with digital and the crop factor. I acquired my lense over years with no where near the information available on the internet now. Frankly, I think I got lucky along the way with my choices, given the subtle variations. I have now played with the image and found that does have the data depth that I am used to from the E-1. The sharpening personality is different with no AA filter, but the tonality gradients are there and can take a lot of pushing around. Bob
billh Posted September 29, 2006 Share #52 Posted September 29, 2006 BTW the link to "woman" DNG file has been removed from the blog site (both "first" and "second" DNG links now only point to the mobile phone image). However the woman-image DNG is still available online. Here's the direct link: http://www.lightmediation.com/blog/podcast/kina/L9994925.DNG (10.1MB) Also, an older version of DCraw converted the RAW files just fine. So you don't need to upgrade every RAW Converter program to view these things :?) How do you download it? I have to leave for a bit, and can't wait to get back and take a look at the C1 file. I can't seem to get mine to work in LE 3.7.5. I installed an updated version of it, I already have a license for the program. What am I doing wrong? The file tool doesn't see those .DNG files. Any ideas? I'm on a Mac... rvaubel Posted September 29, 2006 Share #59 Posted September 29, 2006 Very nice. Both the shot and the woman; I think she holds up very well even at 100%. 8-) Now I would like to see a well-exposed shot at 1250, if anyone has one, both RAW and processed through C1. Not to get cranky about it. JC JRC I'm with you. We all need a ISO 1250 fix. Rex
rosuna Posted September 29, 2006 Share #60 Posted September 29, 2006 Try some but you will come back to Capture One it is simply the most mature Raw processor out there and seems the best out of the box raw processor , i work for none of them. Many have demo trials so give them a try and see what fits your style and workflow. The conversions are superb, but I don't like Capture One's workflow (import, process and save an edited superfat TIFF file besides the original RAW). One of the most important problems in my workflow is naming, archiving, searching and sorting photographs. Due to this, I would prefer a program like Aperture or Lightroom for processing RAWs (I prefer Aperture). It would be a great idea if Phase One develops an archiving application for Capture One.
