Guest stnami Posted August 30, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 30, 2008 It's gotta be a positive, Samsung went to Schnieder for the lenses............
ptomsu Posted August 30, 2008 Share #3 Posted August 30, 2008 Although these are very good news I do not understand the intention of Samsung to speak about this new system so far in advance. " year waiting time is almost a killer in today's digital world. Further giving details like 14MP sensor today is really silly, because as we see already today Canon can bring 16MP in APSC and low noise till ISO 3200 and above. So in 2 years the state of the art will be 18-20MP in APSC - not saying this is needed, but it will still be used as selling argument for cameras. DTD Posted August 30, 2008 Share #5 Posted August 30, 2008 I think Samsung are announcing it now as it's a good way of showing they're serious about becoming a player in the camera market. I wonder if they'll leave Pentax behind? I like the idea of small pocketable high quality cameras* – lugging a big dSLR about is getting harder for me. *wonder where that idea came from? Ruhayat Posted August 31, 2008 Share #6 Posted August 31, 2008 That's called "rain on somebody's parade", Peter. So many folks now will just watch. LOL Microsoft used to be very good at that. Worked very well for them, too.

I like the idea of small pocketable high quality cameras* – lugging a big dSLR about is getting harder for me. *wonder where that idea came from? i would have thought that was obvious this is Samsung signalling Hoya that they dont need Pentax, so they better think of a better 'sell' deal. Maybe it will end up on ebay 18 months is a long time to wait for rain ymmv
daveleo Posted August 31, 2008 Share #9 Posted August 31, 2008 Spring 2010 ? this "press release" is a samsung joke, correct? i'm sure that if *any* R&D engineer of *any* camera or lens maker got in front of a microphone, they'd have equally exciting concepts in the works. (i myself am developing a powdered camera & lens system .... small powder particles .....just add warm water and poof , you have a camera...... </joke> ). regards

ho_co Posted August 31, 2008 Share #13 Posted August 31, 2008 Besides its peculiar timing, could someone explain the "hybrid" idea? Never explained, always in quotes. Steve (OP) speaks of "rumoured APS-C sensor hybrid DSLRs." I've missed the rumors--what's 'hybrid' here? Since the camera is nearly 2 years away, how do we know it will challenge microFourThirds, or that mFT will still be around? Just picking up on two current buzzwords? That's a good one, Howard. We shall see how far, how strange these bunch of losers who can't compete in the DSLR market can go, you are right on - they don't even have to build a camera actually, all they need is a buzzword. jaapv Posted September 1, 2008 Share #16 Posted September 1, 2008 I'm mystified. How can a camera with only a rear-mounted LCD as a viewfinder be classified as a "hybrid DSLR" . And how can an APS-C sensor be classified as competition for m-4/3rds?
giordano Posted September 1, 2008 Share #17 Posted September 1, 2008 I'm mystified. How can a camera with only a rear-mounted LCD as a viewfinder be classified as a "hybrid DSLR" . Only by a marketing person ... though a good EVF (if such a thing is possible) might redeem it. And how can an APS-C sensor be classified as competition for m-4/3rds? No problem there shurely: wasn't 4/3rds originally designed as competition for DSLRs with APS-C sensors?
jaapv Posted September 1, 2008 Share #18 Posted September 1, 2008 Whatever. The only thing this project seems to challenge is the Sigma DP-1. Not too large a terrirory to conquer, I should think - especially three years later, when the adversary has been replaced by something more advanced, one might suppose. Oh please... Who cares what Samsung will be doing in a year? How long did people wait for the DP-1 from Sigma, and howz that working out, hmm? The output is nice but the AF is just this side of slow zombie.
