comapedrosa Posted September 25, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I must apologize for bugging the forum with this, but I really liked this shot and thought "I must post this" when I got it.. but I posted it here last night and got zero (0) interest. Fair enough. Therefore, I'd like to ask you why it is sooo bad... I'm re-attaching it here, in duo-tone, with a different title and a tat smaller (who knows, maybe that does the trick). Thanks for looking.
Advertisement Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Hi comapedrosa, Take a look here Is this me?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robert_parker Posted September 25, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 25, 2006 It looks an interesting image - I think I'd prefer it bigger as it's hard to pick up the critiacl detail and tones on my monitor - Sunday night can be a bad night for posting, so don't be surprised if a shot gets missed !! comapedrosa Posted September 25, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted September 25, 2006 Thank you Robert. I think this one still merits some post-processing - I'll try to do that later and post a larger version. I haven't found a good way to present vertical images yet: scroll or not scroll? According to Andy Barton's recent survey about screen resolutions, 700 pix in height is already too much for viewing the entire frame (accounting for the usual garbage on top and bottom of the screen)... wide.angle Posted September 26, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 26, 2006 IMHO, (and I'm not great at this either as one can tell from my postings), with the central focus on only a part of the back, I don't find much of interest to look at. I see images of people's backs a lot in street photography, but think that is generally a mistake. I see you were trying to capture pregnancy though. Maybe the same composition with the mirror sharp and the back out of focus would tell this story better. For what its worth.
comapedrosa Posted September 26, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted September 26, 2006 Wide.Angle, I guess you're right. I was seduced by the fact that the back was svelte and didn't suggest a pregnancy at all, and hence the distant image of the big belly was an interesting contra point. I totally agree with your comment about photos of people's back: they are generally poor and only raise the question about what was on the face-side. Nevertheless, in this case, the composition attracted me... but I guess I'm double biased: I took the shot and the subject is my wife :-) Thanks for looking,
Sandokan Posted September 26, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 26, 2006 I agree with Scott about plane of focus. Also, in the reflection - she has no nose. ? thirdly, the reflected image could be larger - VicVic did a shot with the mirror reflecting only the face of the model, but in your case maybe just the belly. Try it again with different mirror settings. Its a great theme and you only have a short time to try these things before you will be very busy :-)
fotografr Posted September 26, 2006 Share #7 Posted September 26, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I see you were trying to capture pregnancy though. Maybe the same composition with the mirror sharp and the back out of focus would tell this story better. ...or, perhaps with both the subject and the mirror reflection in sharp focus. comapedrosa Posted September 27, 2006 Author Share #8 Posted September 27, 2006 Ok, I guess I got what I asked for. Die ich rief, die Geister, Werd ich nun nicht los... Next time I won’t bump-up my posts. Thank you all for your comments. Fortunately it is too late for a re-shoot :-) Somehow I'm still musing with the idea of putting it on my wall in B&W...
