These kind of backs work by using the camera's flash sync signal as a trigger. Having said this, just because something is possible doesn't make it desirable. An M4-P is fine and dandy just as it is. The V series can sync at all speeds while the Leica can only sync at 1/50. The F series will also work with FE lenses but that involves modifying some contacts and this modification is not cheap. Perhaps the Leica equivalent is the M7? If Leica needs to modify an M7 to sync with a digital back and that requires tearing down a camera and putting in a circuit board I can see how that may not be desirable as you say. That's a good point but the maximum sync speed is presumably only important if you are using flash. I assume that the PC sync socket on the M4-P body (or similar all manual M) will still 'fire' at the faster shutter speeds? wattsy Posted August 29, 2008 Share #103 Posted August 29, 2008 How you could get an M4 to work a digital back is defeating me at the moment, but I have been up since 3:30am There was some boffin-ish bloke who used to post on the photo.net Leica forum who claimed to be working on a project to graft a full frame B&W 35mm sensor into an old M2. I'm in the dark, since I haven't handled the camera, but an early criticism (of a problem that my have been fixed) is that after pressing the shutter release there was a slight lag before the picture would actually be taken. Production will start late 2009. _ There will not be a new Leica FT model - but Leica will continue together with Panasonic the FTs line ( - think whatever you believe – imho it is an “Ausstieg” ) _ FoMag is waiting for a new "Leica-Knaller" (Big Leica-Bang) which will be introduced at Sept. 15th in a press conference. The last statement in his newsletter was on some announcements around the successor of the R-Line Cameras - an internal Leica project code-named AFRika. We're way past the 'gut feeling' stage, Steve. There's lots of discussion here about the S2. Have to say that most of it is off target, but bits and pieces will give you the general gist of it.
