andybarton Posted August 3, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 3, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) My R8 (with DMR) has decided that it will have a laugh with me. The spot metering function no longer meters properly, while both matrix settings do. It generally gives me a "LO" readout, when compared to the others. Apart from the switch being faulty, I can't think of a reason why only part of the metering system would suddenly go bad. Any ideas, guys?
Advertisement Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Hi andybarton, Take a look here R8 spotmeter playing up. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rsh Posted August 3, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 3, 2008 Hi Andy: Never had that problem crop up. Have you tried taking off the DMR to see if it acts up with the normal back and batteries? Just a thought.
masjah Posted August 3, 2008 Share #3 Posted August 3, 2008 Andy According to the manual, the spot metering photodiode (on the reflector behind the partially transmitting mirror) is separate from the compound photodiode in the bottom of the camera. So it could be that the spot photodiode (or its associated circuitry) is shot.
andybarton Posted August 3, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted August 3, 2008 That'll be it, John. Thanks. Sound expensive...
Overgaard Posted August 3, 2008 Share #5 Posted August 3, 2008 Hmm. Same with my R9 but I just figured it was a DMR "feature." I anyway use external lightmeter or center-weighted.
garyp Posted August 4, 2008 Share #6 Posted August 4, 2008 If the meter goes completely, it's about a $400+ replacement. The metering cells and mirror box are one unit.
