Summarit 90 2.5 hood

Ok, so I just got this hood, but it doesn't seem to fit the lense. What am I missing here? Thanks.

I have the 35' mm lens and also found it quite difficult to screw the hood on to the lens until I dismantled a plasticring that was mounted where the hood should screw in.

I assume that the 90 mm lens is built in the same way as the 35 mm lens.

The hood I have is not up to Leicas usual mechanical standards, since it cannot be screwed tightly into the lens, but rather tends to screw itself loose. I find this quite irritating.

Good luck with your lens and its hood - it is smaller and more handy than the 90 AA and the current 90/2.8. My 35 mm Summarit is OK for street shooting but I am glad I kept my Summilux 35 asph which is a better all-rounder.

I do not have this lens but I believe there is a ring on the front of the lens which unscrews to expose a male thread (thread on the outside) which then allows the hood which has a female thread (thread on the inside) to be screwed onto the lens, a bit like hood on the WATE. Is there a rubber o-ring at the base of the lens thread to cause the hood to tighten as it is screwed down?

Did you buy the lens new? If so, you'll have an explanatory sheet in the box.

As the other posters have indicated, you first have to remove a thin ring from the lens and then replace it with the lens hood. When you're not using the hood (or for storing the lens) simply unscrew the hood and reverse it over the barrel of the lens. The lens cap then fits snugly on the hood.

Incidentally, for safe-keeping I permanently leave the ring inside the lens cap and still the cap fits well.

I have the Summarit 90 ( a great lens, even though some snobbily decry it as a 'cheapo'). I like its compact size (its so small it fits inside my standard Luigi full case)! I like its wieldiness and the pin-sharp images, albeit a bit unexciting in bokeh terms. I love its smooth focussing and its good looking too.

If you're interested, I posted some 90 Summarit images earlier today. Go here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/people/59708-afrika-tage-08-wien.html

I agree, this unscrewing of the 35 Summarit hood is a real pain.

I do know that the 90 Summarit hood also fits the 75 Summarit.

Summarit 75 & 90 share the same hood; to mount it, as have been said, one must unscrew and put apart the small ring on the upper part of the barrel: not so nice, really... if you remove the hood the un-ringed mount has a "naked" look...

Nothing really bad, anyway... surely a fine sliding hood Elmarit 90 style would be better... but also better they have spared something on mechanical details without giving up to glass quality... my 75 is really a very good lens

Thanks for the responses. It makes perfect sense (after you've all explained it to me :) I was surprised that the hood didn't come with instructions, and for some reason I never thought to look at the manual that came with the lense. Anyway, thanks again; I was clearly having a dumb moment.
