This is getting ridiculous

I'm sorry but we have spent 3-4 years "guessing" about Leica's new professional quality SLR digital camera. The photographic world is now digital. Canon and Nikon are moving on to their 7th and 8th generation SLR digital solutions and Leica STILL doesn't even have a professional SLR quality digital camera. That is absolutely ridiculous. Embarrassing. Pathetic.

Now Photokina is quickly approaching and this continuous supply of rumors just keeps rolling along. No facts. No information. Just rumors, hopes and dreams (see my moniker). Who is running Leica, Bozo the Clown. The worlds highest quality camera company has been reduced to jokes and laughable management. Lee is out, what clown is next?

Dr. Kaufmann, to paraphrase a fairly common American statement - either shit or get off of the pot. Tell us what SLR solutions are in the plans. Tell us that you even care that we exist. Tell us something that shows us that Leica is going to exist in the professional digital world in the coming years. Treat us like you care about us or sell the damn company to someone that does.

and I will wait those 8 weeks. Just like I have waited these last 104. But there is a point where Leica moves into the territory of not being a viable company in the eyes of its potential and existing stockholders.

There's only one stockholder and he will do what he wants...

Sorry to tell you this but Leica isn't on your schedule. When I read posts like this I'm ashamed to be an American because it just represents what the rest of the world says about us- preachy, impatient, self centered, loud and over bearing.

Since you are a dreamer, you might program for a precognisive dream using flapping mirror, Summilux-Summicron-Elmarit, pixels & DNG and other DSLR components. Don't limit your program with body names, because they might change the series name. If you want emotional drama content, then add the price......;)

Dream on....

Has the R range ever been really viable? Wouldn't the easiest option be for Leica to drop it completely and concentrate on what makes money - M, P&S and sports optics?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love Leica to announce an R10, if for no other reason that I might be able to pick up a cheap DMR.

As mentioned above, there is only one shareholder.

If Leica only made binoculars and 'scopes, they'd make more profit than they do now.

It really beats me why people can't wait until Photokina to find out stuff. It's that "instant gratification" thing. "I want in now!"

Patience is, of course, a virtue.

If you want a new dSLR NOW, today, in July 2008, but a Canon and stick R glass on the front. Job done.

This solution is so pitiful it is laughable.

I really believe that Leica will announce something at Photokina regarding a future digital Reflex. I also believe that those of us that own R lenses will be satisfied that they will be compatible.

That said, any new MF or AF R lenses that are introduced in the future will be very expensive, so if you are a bit of a risk taker, look to buy the lenses you want off of the new or used market now because they will appreciate rapidly once the Digital R is announced. I did so this year, so I will either look smart or very dumb.

Most of you on this forum are far better at the craft of photography than I am, but I have used Leicas for 37 years because I love the feel of the cameras, the smoothness of the focusing and the consistent optical quality of the lenses. If I am lucky enough to get a good or a great photograph, I know that I will have done so with camera equipment that is second to none as far as image capturing ability.

Here is to you Steve, Andy and everyone on this forum with the same passion that I have. You have my respect for you intuitive posts and level headed responses.

R10 Dreamer - im with you...

If Leica were a well managed company it would provide sometype of "directional roadmap" of future products to it's customers. This company communicates with its customers in a manner that encourages a deminishing number of customers year after year.... to me this is so obvious that i sometimes think this is their goal - to remain a very small-niche player with a renowned name - it has cache' - it has mystique. It allows the owner to have pride.......and to feed an ego. Lets face it, the ego of the owner tells much.

Time and time again we hear from folks on this forum that have decided to bail on leica and go with a company that offers the latest in technology, which in turn provides the photograper to turn out the best image results under various and unique conditions that we all work with. Often these people go to the to C, N, O, and others.... those who remain with leica are either not in a ruxh or cult members - im not sure which i am.

i would think most leica owners are involved with leica because of their own ego's -- they want to use the best.....there was a time you could actually tell the difference and it meant something but now-a-days there are many "good-enoughs"

Personally i gave up the DMR - sold it earlier in the year, i kept my R9, and probably will for the enjoyment of having the last film SLR from leica. i did cut over to the Digilux 3 system and use many of my R lenses - i always felt the investment with leica was in the lenses - NOT the camera body and i try to keep that in mind in regards to new camera body announcements. To think we (as a group) are so concerned with new leica bodies (R10, M9, Dlux4, Digilux 4) when the company itself is really about lenses NOT camera bodies ..... this seems to put thing back in perspective for me

So bottom line im with you -- leica should tell us more if they want folks to stay around and buy their cameras and lenses...and other products too...

Hey I am sure that the new DSLR will be called "The Anouncement"............. trouble is it's a load of crap to use ......... no shutter, that will be announced soon. If nothing happens this year wait another couple, doesn't matter they still make lenses, shitty bodies though

The Photokina. :p;)

Yes I know about Photokina. But what will happen there? It seems as if people think that Photokina will provide answers. What makes you think that is so? What happens if Leica doesn't introduce a DSLR or provide any info pro or con about one at that date?

What do you think the odds are that Leica will have a competitive DSLR body for use with R lenses or a new reflex system, available for delivery in 2008? What about 2009?

Isn't this all about groundless speculation?

Consider that everyone who needed a DSLR already bought one. I can't see how it is in Leica's best interest to wait 7 more weeks to announce anything unless they figure they have nothing more to lose.
