30 x 20 poster printed from the M8

I see sometimes people asking if you printed this or that size. And how it looks.

 

Well today I printed two posters, 30" x 20" ( 80cm x 56cm for normal people ) and it blew me away. Honestly, I printed files from my old Canon 1DS I ( the best of them all ) and they were nice, but the M8 pictures are rich, detailed .. gosh , they are good.

 

I even have no hesitation to print a bit larger if possible - the files can take it with ease.

 

I took the offer from photobox.co.uk ( no affiliation whatsoever with them ) that they were giving away 1 poster if you ordered 1. So 15 quid for two big posters is ok.

 

Now bugger - I have to print some more ( this is addictive, alas, my walls are empty ) and the promotion is off !!!

 

Honestly, that reassured me in keep investing in some more Leica glass - even if a M9, M10, Mwhatsoever comes, the M8 is what I need for what I print. Beautifull.

 

Now, if they could work around the silly battery usage, better noise, no IR... that's another story - but 10mp is my limit, works for me.

It really all depends what you are looking for.

A 30x20" can look fantastic even if the image quality from a printers perspective is not all that good, when a 30x20" with perfect image quality, sharp form edge to edge, corner to corner displaying a circuit board for instance might look unattractive to most viewers, but will be an excellent piece of photography.

I can tell you that large images shot with an m8 are not "of excellent quality" but usually comprise a great theme with a nice color rendition, hence making the image look "great" this can be achieved with a lot of camera brands and models, "high quality" images however not.

It's all relative. Ever see a 50' x 60' print from a drum scanned 4x5 chrome printed on a LightJet? You may change your definition of "image quality". I agree that the M8 can produce excellent prints up to 20' x 30' (with proper up-rezzing) if the image content is "low frequency"; but high frequency data such as that found in landscape imagery is another matter altogether. This really is the realm of the view camera (for many reasons, just one of which includes image quality).
