Your Old Dog Posted September 23, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 23, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all, my name is Ray and a long time SLR user. BUT then all these M8 rumblings! It's been a dream of mine to own a Leica M series and could never afford it. Then, when I can afford it film is on it's way out !! My 401k plan(savings plan in US) have about $15,000 tied up in Nikon D200 and some nice glass. But good grief it's heavy and noisey. I've avoided my favorite type of shooting because of the super attention the SLR draws to itself. I've read thru quite a few post and can see that participating in this forum would definetly be like running with the big dogs as they say! I also see a lot of the kind of stuff I like to do and not so many flowers and squirrels !! Take care and have a great day as we eagerly await the M8 ! Ray............. stuny Posted September 24, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 24, 2006 Ray - Welcome aboard. I most strongly suggest that you never touch your 401k until retirement, and to regularly contribute as many pre-tax dollars as you can every year. Find some other way to catch the Leica habit, including perhaps good, well cared for used gear, including the Digilux 2/Panasonic LC1.
RaySwan Posted November 29, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 29, 2006 Ray - Welcome aboard. I most strongly suggest that you never touch your 401k until retirement, and to regularly contribute as many pre-tax dollars as you can every year. Find some other way to catch the Leica habit, including perhaps good, well cared for used gear, including the Digilux 2/Panasonic LC1. Thanks for the welcome folks! Stuart, I am old enough to withdraw without the penalty. I also have a pretty health account. I've wanted to own a high end Leica my entire 60 year life. I want one before I cash out or get taken out with a Greyhound bus. I figure the equipment won't be thrown away after my demise but rather sold for a nice chunk of change. I'm pretty easy on equipment!! Thanks for your concern and your advise would be mine also to young folks who are now buying BMW's instead of using some of that money for a healthier 401K or retirement plan. I'll be lurking till I can "put up or shut up" with an M8 of my very own. I want it as a street camera and am trying to get caught up on the myriad of lenses available for the Leica!
