dcarter Posted July 7, 2008 Share #1 Posted July 7, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I owned a D2 in the past and have missed it greatly. I've been waiting to see what would be next, but nothing really interests me as the D2 has....I am thinking about purchasing another and would like to know if the new sensor performs like the old one...ie...noise, resolution, etc. Does anyone know if the new sensor is by the same manufacturer? Any of your opinions/comparsions will be greatly appreciated in helping me make my descision.... And yes I have tried the D3 (a great camera too)...but I love the compact/quietness and weight of the D2...Oh why won't Leica produce another one with a few upgrades??? Thanks
Advertisement Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Hi dcarter, Take a look here Digilux 2 new sensor performance. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
spylaw4 Posted July 7, 2008 Share #2 Posted July 7, 2008 As far as I can tell the replaced sensor performs exactly the same. I echo the call for an improved D2 - we all know what we would like to see improved, no need to re-state it.
dhsimmonds Posted July 7, 2008 Share #3 Posted July 7, 2008 I agree with Brian, we have been clamouring for a proper successor to the D2/LC1 ever since they ceased production, some years ago now. The D3 just didn't do it. My LC1 is still my favourite camera and the last one that I would ever part with.
sharookh Posted July 7, 2008 Share #4 Posted July 7, 2008 Why do I keep reading that the sensors are being reconditioned or replaced? Is /was there a problem with them?? Mine has performed flawlessly!!
stuny Posted July 7, 2008 Share #5 Posted July 7, 2008 Sharookh - A large percentage of the sensors began to fail, frequnetly first showing a strong purple color shift, and then largely failing altogether. Some D2 owners skipped the purple and experienced direct failure. The Leica versions were repaired at no charge, but Leica tried to convince many owners to buy a D3 at a much reduced price instead of getting the repair. I've heard stories of the Panasonic version sometimes being repaired at no charge, and other times for US$500-US$600.
cnguyen Posted July 9, 2008 Share #6 Posted July 9, 2008 Digilux 2 owners - I would give Digilux 3 a consderation. I own one and love it. used to have a Digilux 2 but sold it. The digilux 3 is bigger but with interchangeable lenses and other features. The images for Digilux 3 are excellent in my book.
