andym911 Posted June 22, 2008 Share #1 Posted June 22, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear all, after just acquiring my IIf and Elmar 3,5 I wanted to ask if there are filters available for this lens and if so is there a specific accessory number? Am particularly interested in Orange filter and UV. Appreciate any advice. regards andy
Advertisement Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Hi andym911, Take a look here Elmar 50/3,5 filters. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted June 22, 2008 Share #2 Posted June 22, 2008 The typical - original Leitz filter for Elmar (and many other old Leitz lenses) was the A36 type, with a retaining screw: lot of type-colors available (for instance, different level of yellow, IR and polarizing too). Is rather easy to find them on marketplaces, at reasonable prices. Besides this, there is also an adapter to fit E39 filters on Elmar (SOOGZ, not difficult to find, too) and of course there is no problem to find E39s, original or not: in this case, one must keep in mind that with such adapter the standard hoods for Elmar 5 cm (FISON, FIKUS) CANNOT be mounted, and, for instance,Summicron 50 hoods like IROOA must be used. For completness, there were also small diameter filters for the Elmar 5 cm only, to be mounted just over the front lens (as the near focusing lenses ELPRO etc) but they are rarer, older, often not clean, and with less colors available. andym911 Posted June 22, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted June 22, 2008 Luigi, that is perfect information..just what I wanted.many thanks, I will look for the adapter to allow 39mm filters as I have those already. cheers andy
brianv Posted June 22, 2008 Share #4 Posted June 22, 2008 Also- Look for WALZ filters made for the Argus C3. They are 19mm threads that fit the Elmar. Advantage: they leave the aperture lever where you can get to it. Other filters must be removed to change the F-Stop. (Dumb luck on my part in discovering this, my C3 misses its filter) The M-Mount Elmar 5cm F3.5 changed the design, "modern" aperture ring.

I forgot the warning well described by Brian... dismount a filter to adjust f stop can be really a little annoying....
peter_n Posted June 22, 2008 Share #6 Posted June 22, 2008 Actually there is a way around the f stop adjustment while using the 39mm filters. I use a regular 39mm filter fitted to a Leica SOOGZ 36/39mm filter adapter, then inside that I have a Leica VOOLA ring that allows you to set the aperture without taking the filter off. You just loosen the SOOGZ screw and rotate the SOOGZ then tighten the screw again. Works very well. Welcome, dear visitor! I checked with a B&W rep a couple of weeks ago at a trade do, they still list 19mm filters which I think fit the inner thread of the 3.5 Elmar/50 mm. They would have to order them (in UK), they are not a stock item, but they sre in the catalogue. I am contemplating getting a UV for my lens.
