JHAG Posted June 7, 2008 Share #1 Posted June 7, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) My pristine R9 went to Solms for a bottom cover screw which fell from it's hole. Camera still under warranty. Solm's reply : camera fell on the ground , replacement of bottom cover mandatory, 330 euros. Needless to say that camera (or any of my cameras) never fell anywhere. What should I do ?

R2-D2 Posted June 7, 2008 Share #2 Posted June 7, 2008 My pristine R9 went to Solms for a bottom cover screw which fell from it's hole.Camera still under warranty. Solm's reply : camera fell on the ground , replacement of bottom cover mandatory, 330 euros. Needless to say that camera (or any of my cameras) never fell anywhere. What should I do ? Tell them exactly that and ask why there are no signs of the impact on the bottom cover. (as you said your camera is in pristine condition and it seems unlikely that such an impact would leave no signs)
JHAG Posted June 7, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted June 7, 2008 Tell them exactly that and ask why there are no signs of the impact on the bottom cover. (as you said your camera is in pristine condition and it seems unlikely that such an impact would leave no signs) Not the slight trace of impact whatsoever. My dealer tells me he already saw cameras without any such apparent shock which suffered inside. Mine never had any shock. Body is also protected since day 1 by Luigi's case. Ivar B Posted June 7, 2008 Share #4 Posted June 7, 2008 It is difficult to be certain if there is a damage to the camera or not. I guess it could have happened before or after it came into your possession. With the benefit of hindsight, you should just have ordered the battery cover and not sent the camera. A couple of years back I wanted a rewind nob for a chrome M4, as the one being there was a black M4-2 part. I was asked to send the camera down so Leica could attach it. Like spending 50 Euro and more shipping the camera both ways, to exchange a part afffixed with 2 screws and which takes 10 seconds to do yourself. On top of that, there is alsways a danger that the list of errors which needs fixing will be as long as a telephone book. Sometimes, it is quite adequate that something is 90 % ok. You do not need to pay a large amount of money to correct something unnoticeable in practice.
JHAG Posted June 7, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted June 7, 2008 I agree Ivar, only that : - the camera is still under warranty, so repair should'nt cost me nothing - the bottom cover opening slightly each time I remove the case, I don't want dirt or anything come in there and create real damage in years to come. I'll call Leica monday.
jaapv Posted June 7, 2008 Share #6 Posted June 7, 2008 Happened to me too. I sent in a Clux2 with dead autofocus. Because it had a dent in the top plate the told me it was fall damage and no guarantee. When I replied it was working perfectly with the dent for months before the autofocus died, they repaired it under warratee without a murmur.
