How much better is the Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH than the pre-ASPH?

I own both and it's not tomorrow that i let them go.

The asph is not better, it is different. Generally sharper, mainly at f/1.4 where it is outstanding. But the OoF is sharper as well. I would not say 'harsh' but definitely sharper.

The pre-asph has a different fingerprint. Reasonably sharp with a smooth OoF. My favourite to portrait not-so-young people.

BTW i've not used the asph on a film body so far, only the R-D1, so take my imput with a grain of salt if you're a grain lover.
