Is the difference worth replacing the lens? Thanks!
Advertisement Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Hi rick123, Take a look here How much better is the Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH than the pre-ASPH?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted September 17, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 17, 2006 I own both and it's not tomorrow that i let them go. The asph is not better, it is different. Generally sharper, mainly at f/1.4 where it is outstanding. But the OoF is sharper as well. I would not say 'harsh' but definitely sharper. The pre-asph has a different fingerprint. Reasonably sharp with a smooth OoF. My favourite to portrait not-so-young people. BTW i've not used the asph on a film body so far, only the R-D1, so take my imput with a grain of salt if you're a grain lover.
SteveYork Posted September 17, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 17, 2006 I've used both and currently own the 50mm Summilux ASPH. In my opinion, it is moticably sharper then its predecessor. One's good and the other one is great, and I'm speaking for both B&W and color. I know others have different opinions, but this is mine.
rick123 Posted September 17, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted September 17, 2006 So then do you feel the Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 (pre-ASPH vs ASPH) is a great lens in its own right? Or should it be on the "to be replaced" list for the ASPH verssion? Thanks!
