Falstaff Posted July 25, 2008 Share #61 Posted July 25, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) My advice would be to wander up and down the prom until you come across a rag bag of reprobates being arrested by a community police officer. What, you're moolighting as a community officer now? Falstaff
Advertisement Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Hi Falstaff, Take a look here Morecambe date?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted July 25, 2008 Share #62 Posted July 25, 2008 It pays the bills and I get to wear a uniform. I had been thinking of giving Bernie Eccleston a call in case there's a vacancy coming up, but I rather doubt that now. It's too late to suggest it as a meeting place, but there's what looks to be an ok cafe on the sea front - the Artisan... Artisan - Delicatessan & Cafe - City Coast Countryside As I say, we could have arranged to meet here, but I guess it's too late. Perhaps somewhere to eat if they won't let us into the Midland. I have seen is described as "a little piece of Islington by the sea". Whether that's a recommendation of not I'll leave to you to decide. I've never eaten there, or even had a coffee, but it seems ok.
robert_parker Posted July 26, 2008 Share #63 Posted July 26, 2008 Gentlemen Although I was considering a run up the M6 to come and join you, as my Incredibly Powerful BMW has popped a tyre on the Wells road and we don't carry spares (sounds like something out of 'The Apprentice' - I mean reserve tyres ) and I can't get it fixed until Monday, I shall have to wish you a pleasant afternoon by the sea and a good days photography !! Don't count on anyone carrying the correct run-flat spares in stock; my friend had to wait over two weeks to get back on the road. Ultimate Driving Machine? My arse. stunsworth Posted July 26, 2008 Share #66 Posted July 26, 2008 Robert, sorry to hear that you were thinking of going but can't make it. See you in Perpignan I guess! There will be at least a couple of people there from the LUG. One who lives in Perpignan, another who's travelling up from Alicante. Also probably someone from Barcelona. Should be a good get together.
andybarton Posted July 27, 2008 Share #67 Posted July 27, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) They've promised Monday, so I'm hoping for the best !! I have found that the Kwikfit people who come to your house or office are excellent, and they always have my run-flats in stock. They charge £30 extra to come to you, which is well worth it so to not having to sit in a tyre shop for 2 hours waiting your turn, IMO.

I've had very good experience of Quickfit mobile myself and ertainly wouldn't hesitate to recommend them - in this case I'm going back to the seme place that fitted the original tyres as they again did very well last time and can get an exact match - this means that I won't be running a pair of different tyres on the front axle relative to the back !! stunsworth Posted July 27, 2008 Share #70 Posted July 27, 2008 Robert, a pity you couldn't make it. I think we all agreed that we had an excellent day - and one that was far better than at least I anticipated. Perhaps there's hope for Morecambe at last. There were lots of people about, and the restored Midland hotel was excellent. We ate at the Artisan cafe that I mentioned above. Fantastic food, even if the service was rather slow, but then the menu warned that everything was produced fresh to order. Certainly I'd eat there again the next time I'm in the area. stunsworth Posted July 27, 2008 Share #71 Posted July 27, 2008 I found this quote on the Guardian's web site concerning the cafe that we ate in... "A former London-based advertising photographer, Philip opened tiny Artisan as 'the first non-smoking, non-mobile phone-using cafe/deli in Morecambe' on Valentine's Day 2004, subsequently picking up a UKTV Food Channel 'Local Hero' award.'We subscribe to the Slow Food movement so every dish is cooked to order, but we've been busy ever since we opened. I'm very optimistic about The Midland - people won't want to eat every meal in the hotel!' Artisan is now expanding into the space next door and I can personally recommend the exceptional lamb shank." Despite it being a 'non mobile phone' cafe there were three - or was it four? - iPhones on display at one point. The only surprise was the the owners weren't emailing each other. Rolo Posted July 28, 2008 Share #73 Posted July 28, 2008 The highlight of our day has to be the arrival of Munich based member Wizard who took time out of his busy holiday schedule to drop in on us after abandoning his wife on the promenade. Thank you for joining us. I'd also like to mention here that Azzo didn't turn up again. It's becoming a habit. Thanks guys for an entertaining day, especially Steve for organising lunch, Falstaff for the use of his BMW (in spite of the useless 'puncture warning system' that caused us to miss the sunrise) and Pete for just being as miserable as ever in a town that suited it. As the Manc's say, "See ya around'. Rolo

andybarton Posted July 28, 2008 Share #80 Posted July 28, 2008 I bet he'd knock-up lunch for us more quickly than the cafe did though. And he'd have plenty of cold beers to hand. (The Reala was fine, btw, so thanks very much! - it must have been the processor...)
