crmlturbo Posted May 12, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, Just wanted to drop in and say hello! New member here from Pebble Beach, California. I've been perusing through threads all day and have quickly come to the realization that I have A LOT to learn. I just ordered a Leica Digilux 3, which should be here on Wednesday. I ended up trading in my R8 for it, so we shall see how I like it. Quick question in regards to memory cards: Does there seem to be a consensus as to what the preferred memory card is for the camera? I was checking out amazon and saw this Amazon.com: Transcend 16GB SDHC CARD (SD 2.0 SPD CLASS 6) with Compact Card Reader: Electronics. Any thoughts on it? I know one of the major issues is that if it fails, there is the potential that you lose everything. Anything negative besides that? Thanks in advance for all your help! Marquinius Posted May 12, 2008 Share #2 Posted May 12, 2008 Russ, I'm using Sandisk 2Gb, both the Ultra and the Extreme and have no problems. Swapping them with my M8 means I have to format them, but that's no issue either. There's enough on th Leica forum: search with "digilux 3" and "memory card" and you'll be amazed. Have fun with your Digilux and share some pics! Marco
stuny Posted May 12, 2008 Share #3 Posted May 12, 2008 Russ - Welcome to the Forum. Perhaps the most important thing to do regarding SD cards is to buy from absolutely reputable sources since there are many knock-offs out there. I've used only SanDisc cards, and except in the beginning (April '04) never had problems with any. In the beginning, SanDisc support got me going again, either through phone support and immediate fix, or replacement. Since then I've bought many more, and never had a problem. Other Forum members have had similar experiences with SanDisc and other brands. Hopefully, some will add to this.
dugby Posted May 12, 2008 Share #4 Posted May 12, 2008 Russ, congrats on the D3. I hope you already know that your R glass is usable on the D3, albeit with an R-4/3 adapter. A couple people have talked about preventing the D3 body from scratches. When travelling I use two cases for my D3/L1 but not at the same time. I have the Leica Neoprene 18667, and also swap to a Crumpler Zieube, depending on the circumstances. The latter is more water resistant than the neoprene. Both allow very fast access to the camera, with little effort.
