roguewave Posted May 9, 2008 Share #3 Posted May 9, 2008 Agreed. Also like the color contrast withe the snow & black body. I always liked red heads, so I married one.

Geolux Posted May 9, 2008 Share #8 Posted May 9, 2008 HI: Perhaps I am missing something, but I seem to recall that "Palliated" is not the correct spelling. I respectfully submit that "Pileated" is the correct spelling, unless we are using a language other than standard English. Regardless, It is a terrific image ! Best wishes geolux
fotografr Posted May 10, 2008 Share #9 Posted May 10, 2008 You definitely nailed this one. I know from experience how hard it is to get close to these birds. Beautiful shot.
wildlightphoto Posted May 10, 2008 Share #10 Posted May 10, 2008 Very nice photo (and the correct spelling is Pileated). I've been after this species for a long time with very limited results. I'm thinking it could go a bit lighter, particularly in the facial area.
imported_peter_m Posted May 10, 2008 Author Share #11 Posted May 10, 2008 Thank you all for commenting. They are pretty shy normally but every winter I have one or two hanging around the place. Took me quite a while to get close to that guy. I suppose bribing him may have helped a bit Ben, I would have liked a bit more texture in the black body, have to watch my exposure the next time more carefully. Al, I remember your shots, they where quite nice as well. Peter, You will find one , seams like thy are harder to get close to in summer, they seam to be always high up in the trees. Ivan, Martin, and John thank you Geolux, You are correct, my mistake believing the spell checker, should have looked it up in the guide. Glad you liked it. Brent and Dough, Thank you both for commenting. I suppose a bit more exposure would have been better on the black. Will have to see what I can do in PS. I am not the best at post processing.
