Non Disclosure Agreements notwithstanding, it is hard to imagine that not even a plausible leak has emerged regarding if R10, or when R10. Management's hints are only that. Surely someone knows something definitive about R's future. Please share.

Apple certainly knows how to "tease" new product introductions--their suppliers share photos of new cases, chips, etc., and by the time the actual computer hits the market, buyers are frothing at the mouth to possess the new version.

There are lots of ways to introduce new products, but this utter silence is frustrating. Would someone out there tell us something valid about R? Not speculate, or like to see, but something about the future of this line of products? If Leica is there for its R faithful, we are here for Leica. If not, if backward compatibility is abandoned or the line altogether, we have some photo equipment decisions to make.

Surely the silence is to keep from having a negative impact on the sales of Leica's current digital R products until the time is right...

Did you notice that Sony previewed the Alpha 900 more than a year before release in order to reassure its user base that a high end model would be forthcoming? Sony had nothing to lose by doing this. The Alpha 900 camera was announced today at a price of $3000. There are several Zeiss lenses for it besides all of the other lenses. This will put pressure on Canon's 5D replacement in terms of features and price. How can Leica compete with this?

By sticking the R mount to the next Canon 5D or selling big bodies to a few MF users.

I use Leica R on Canon bodies and I would never buy a R10 if Leica announces it because it will be to darn expensive. To many bugs with the M8 as well. I would rather spend my cash on a couple of 5D mkII and use the rest of the money to buy one of the new Noctis :D

Edit: I would consider one at 6K, but I doubt thats gonna happen...

This is not logical. The DMR had no bugs. If you go this way, you should not buy the 5D replacement neither because the 1DIII had so many AF bugs...

I have bought several Canon bodies new without any problems. (I am aware of the 1dmkIII). I had no problems with my M8, but three close friends has sudden death syndrome and I know of many more with problems.

I only have one close friend that have had the DMR and he had so many problems with it, that he in the end got all his money refunded by the Leica importer. He had to send his camera and DMR to Leica to calibrate it, and he couldnt use it with film cause then he had to send camera/DMR combo to Solms again to calibrate it again. His conclusion was that he couldnt rely on it one bit and he could not under any circumstances use it as his main work camera.

In the end I will rather put my money on Canon making a problem free digital camera than Leica. This is of course only my personal opinion. You are of course entitled to yours ;) The price will also probably be 2000EUR extra for the Leica even the specs would be the same. If something goes wrong I have to send it to Solms for a 3 months vacation. I cant take that chance since I actually earn my living as a photographer at this time and I have a Canon Pro repair shop 20mins drive from where I live. And I can still use my R glass on my Canon. :)

I always read the Canon using - R-Lenses with a strange sense of fascination; Why, I wonder would anyone do this? Because of the digital nature of the Canon bodies I suspect.

But it's a CANON, the biggest throwaway digital camera producer on the planet, with all it's thousand and twenty features that require you to stop shooting to use them, or at least, take your eyes away from the finder to adjust. It would appear, that there isn't much pride of ownership to put a better lens on it - it just becomes a tool - which is okay. But geese, why do the Canon user's have to keep talking about it here?

This is a LEICA site. So, in a week or so, I hope there will be an R10 so at least, for a while, we won't have to hear about 'my Canon this, or my Canon that'. DOH!!!!!!!

I would not hold my breath. If the next Leica is an MF camera, we will still need a 35mm body for our R lenses.

If the S2 is an evolution from S1, then it's actually a view camera taking scanning backs. Of course, it may take different kind of lenses, R, M and maybe, just a maybe, Hasselblad lenses, and allow the mating with some medium format digital backs, but it doesn't fall into the medium format category.

I'm expecting Leica to say at least a few words about the future of R, if they want to drop the system, then say it, not a big deal at all. Keeping us all in darkness is absolutely not good business ethics.

How can you say that since no 5D replacement has been announced?

Alan: if you can't get your head around that, then you're not a true believer :p

Those of us who want to use their R lenses on a 35mm body will need some help from Canon anyhow.

Actually, the R lenses can also be adapted to the 25MP A900, when it becomes available I'm going to give it a hack.
