Imagine launching of the life boat in heavy seas when the vessel is rolling from side to side - it will be a rough lowering for the crew members to the water surface. Very powerful as a vertical, with all the long vertical lines accentuating the distance from the davits to the water, and you caught it at the perfict moment, just before the lifeboat touched water.
