osscat Posted April 23, 2008 Share #1 Posted April 23, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) My Digilux 3 went back to leica for repair. The end element of the kit lens rotated 360 degrees and wobbled about 1/8th of an inch in any direction. It also would not zoom past about 18mm. Banding at high ISO and variable exposure. It arrived back today with the lens fully functional and a completely different feel to it from the way it was when new. However, before repair, when I switched the camera off the leica red dot appeared on the LCD as it shut down. Now I get a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark on it ! I also notice that on the custom menu page 4 there is an additional function 'clean sensor', which, from inspection, lifts the mirror away to expose the sensor. I had not noticed this function in the V2 firmware upgrade - was it there and I did not see it or is it new? Any ideas? - Needles to say it is going back pronto but I would like to know what is up? Oh, also, I can not download images from the memory card directly from the camera, the cards download on a reader but not in camera. Hmm. Advertisement Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Hi osscat, Take a look here I have problem with D3 - help please.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dugby Posted April 24, 2008 Share #2 Posted April 24, 2008 Maybe Leica-service had accessed a 'hidden' service menu during the repair and had forgotton to disable this before returning the camera to you..? Press the multi-button combination which reports the Firmware version number to see if it is V2.0 or something else.... ? Finally within the firmware menus there is a "master reset".....try that. Bob Ross Posted April 24, 2008 Share #3 Posted April 24, 2008 Good to know that you can clean your sensor....if needed.....I never have on my E thingies. I'm surprised that the cleaning function wasn't there from the begining. A few things to try before sending it back. 1- Do a reset and if that doesn't help try taking the battery out for at least a day. This does a deeper reset. 2-Try a different memory card and be sure to reformat in the camera. Bob
osscat Posted April 24, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted April 24, 2008 Thanks guys, I am not too sure about the 'clean' sensor' function. If you select it, the mirror flips away and that is it, nothing happens. At this point I can imagine 'stuff' arriving there that was not there before. To disable it I found I have to switch the camera off. The firmware is version 2 for the body and version 1 for the lens. I will try your suggestions and let you know. osscat Posted April 24, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted April 24, 2008 Hi again, I have tried your suggestions and there is no change. I sent the camera off with no battery and there was none in there when it came back. I presume any deep resetting was done in transit from Solms. I shall take the battery out and try again but I suspect it will be on the way back before the weekend. Grrr. Something else: I just wandered about the Leica web pages and registered with the owners page and when I was asked to select 'product', underneath Digilux 3, there was listed a Digilux 4.3. Any idea what this is, anybody? Osscat
dugby Posted April 24, 2008 Share #6 Posted April 24, 2008 there was listed a Digilux 4.3. Any idea what this is, anybody? Osscat The Digilux 4.3 is quite an old Fuji-Leica P&S product from about 2000. you can read about it <http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Leica/leica_digilux43.asp>
joechan Posted April 24, 2008 Share #7 Posted April 24, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) With regards to your query about sensor cleaning, all it does is flip the mirror out of the way and open the shutter to allow access to the sensor. You have to clean the sensor yourself using brushes or swabs.
osscat Posted April 24, 2008 Author Share #8 Posted April 24, 2008 Thank you Dugby and Joechan. I'll have a look at the P&S details later - got to take the spouse to the Fracture Clinic. The thing with the Sensor Clean function is that it was not there before I sent it back and I had upgraded the Firmware to V2 ages ago. Hmm - it is being packaged up later today. osscat Posted April 24, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted April 24, 2008 Maybe Leica-service had accessed a 'hidden' service menu during the repair and had forgotten to disable this before returning the camera to you..? Hi Dugby, You are absolutely correct - it seems that the workshop forgot to reset the camera to normal photo mode from the engineers service mode. Leica are collecting it tomorrow.
