M8 shutter

 Sorry, guys--I'm confused.

We see the grey blade in the photos, so I'm missing the "red dot" reference--when it appears in this camera, everything is red-dotted, right? (My mind is getting too literal with age and anticipation.)

Let me rephrase: You're saying that the shutter in the M8 is the same as in the R8/R9, right? And you're saying that same shutter is in the Nikon F5, right? Good so far.

Are you aware of any other models that use that same shutter?

Thanks!

The origin of the shutter is inconsequential as long as it is well made, durable and it works.

Richard--Don't be so touchy. :)

If Leica puts it in the M8, it will be fine. But since it's an off-the shelf shutter, I'm curious who else has it.

Coming from an R9 I dont know what to think ... "Durable and silent" already has me mildly sckkkeptical if not verging on cynical. Hope it shan't be full of Leica lazy design solutions.

Ahh ... it will probably work fine. Just give it a good padded bag, keep it out of the weather and home it like an expensive mistress.

On the other hand doesn't the MP look stunning today. :)

Well the R9 is a good shutter and it should last a long time. I don't think it as noise though, the mirror certainly is on the body but the M is without a mirror so it should really be fine

Does anyone have firm info on the shutter? Mark asked who makes it, and that's the same question I'm raising.

Now everyone says it's the same as in the R8/R9, but that doesn't take us very far.

Yes, it's a good shutter: That's why it's in the Leica. No need to say so.

But there aren't many shutters on the market with a 1/8000 sec top speed--that's why I assumed it's the same as in the D200.

In the R3, Leica made some changes to an off-shelf shutter from Copal, turning it into the "CLS" or Copal-Leitz Shutter. No reason for Leica to keep building shutters as they did for the M and Leicaflex when there were already competent shutters ready to go on the market. So from the R3 forward, Leica reflex cameras have used modular shutters.

I'm just curious: Does anyone know anything about the M8 (and presumably R8/R9) shutter, e.g. who makes it and what other cameras use it?

Thanks!
