john_f Posted September 11, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 11, 2006 The embargo on the Leica M8 digital apparently ends this Friday (about midnight GMT). No embargo info re: other new Leica products (other cameras, lenses and sport optics). Keep an eye tomorrow on the Chasseur d'Images web site (CDI site: Sommaire) as they very often disagree with "non-disclosure agreements" (that is, IF they signed those NDAs - which is not sure) since most companies no longer respect their side of the bargain by "accidentally" leaking info about their new products before the end of the embargo. Not an easy business for on-line magazines. Have a look at these comments from dpreview on the frustrations of NDAs and embargos: Website security 101: Digital Photography Review Chasseurs D'Embargo: Digital Photography Review Sony Alpha DSLR-A100, hands-on preview: Digital Photography Review
albertwang Posted September 11, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 11, 2006 NDA's are worthless... In fact, individuals don't care and companies just want the roll in the cash for their lawyers who have thumbtwiddling to do while that secret prototype rolls down the aisle of mechanized welfare. hamey Posted September 14, 2006 Share #7 Posted September 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well today I looked at three (3) Leica brochures M8, D3 and the V/LUX. So you will have a lot to talk about shortly. Cheers.
sean_reid Posted September 14, 2006 Share #8 Posted September 14, 2006 The recent leaks of Leica product information were not intentional and I am only one of many journalists who are respecting the Sept 15 date. Note that Leica is introducing new products (plural) on the 15th. Cheers, Sean
earleygallery Posted September 14, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted September 14, 2006 Why have Leica chosen the 15th I wonder? and why an embargo until midnight? I would have thought that a date during Photokina would have been more effective in gaining publicity etc.
calshot Posted September 14, 2006 Share #10 Posted September 14, 2006 Seems that the BJP 20/09/06 will carry a world exclusive. a showcase of Simon Wheatley (Magnum) who has been using M8 around London. Please leave one copy on bookstalls for me. Ta Rob
marknorton Posted September 14, 2006 Share #11 Posted September 14, 2006 "Midnight" is a bit ambiguous... Is it 00:00 or 24:00 on the 15th? If I read Sean's intentions correctly, I understood he will release his information at 00:00 on 15th EST which would be 05:00 on the 15th here in the UK. Or did he mean release it at the end of the day, not the beginning?
