starwatcher Posted September 11, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted September 11, 2006 Hey!!!! it could be easier to gather the non M8 related threads and plonk them elsewhere I'll take it into consideration as a non-native speaker I especially like the word "plonk"
geoff Posted September 11, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 11, 2006 would you mind if we collect existing M8 related threads and move them into the M8 section? I think this is very helpful. I always thought the original three forum divisions, Customer, Digital, Photos, alone were inadequate. Having sub-forums keeps topics organized and easy to locate. I would even suggest that there be further sub-divisions added. Customer Forum: Service & Repair sub-forum Dealers & Purchasing sub-forum Leica History sub-forum Digital Forum: Leica Digital Rangefinder (M8) sub-forum Leica DSLR (Digital-Module-R, R10?) sub-forum Leica D Series (future Leica version of the L1) sub-forum Leica Digital Consumer (Panasonic made Leicas) sub-forum Computer Topics sub-forum Film Forum: M Series sub-forum R Series sub-forum Consumer Compact sub-forum Photo Forum: This is pretty much covered with current sub-forums although the addition of a avant-garde/abstract sub-forum might be useful. General Topics: Exhibitions & Galleries Books Legal Matters (copyright, permits, rights, etc.) Insurance Stolen Reports Additionally, it is technically possible, with vBulletin, for moderators to migrate and close threads to help control topic creeping. Guest flatfour Posted September 11, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 11, 2006 What is the plural for forum ? Is it fora ?
cbretteville Posted September 11, 2006 Share #7 Posted September 11, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Although I agree with Geoff that some more deviding up would be appropriate I beleive his list is too detailed. The problem with sub deviding too much is that we'll miss postings. And the moderators will have a lot of work to do moving misplaced threads to the correct place. TimF Posted September 11, 2006 Share #11 Posted September 11, 2006 Film Forum: M Series sub-forum R Series sub-forum Consumer Compact sub-forum Do we get a no-TTL meter section for the real reactionaries amongst us? (alright, me)
Guest stnami Posted September 11, 2006 Share #12 Posted September 11, 2006 .... boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, Geoff. Lets place everything in a neat and ordered way, have more rules and some extra rules , then some extra extra sub rules of the sub folders with hidden rules and content. Content forget about it it will make the forum look untidy "close threads to help control topic creeping." that is just too stupid for words outtta here

bill Posted September 11, 2006 Share #14 Posted September 11, 2006 Just for once, I agree! Too many subdivisions will make it too difficult to keep track. We'll miss things. It may be neat and tidy to have everything in leetle boxes, but it's not user-friendly. PLEASE don't do this. At the moment I only have to flick between two sub fora. From a usability angle this is a disaster, and smacks of New Labour "organisation for our own good". Sub-division only helps the hard of thinking. I really disagree with this. Regards, Bill
frc Posted September 11, 2006 Share #15 Posted September 11, 2006 Nice another puzzle. Not about M8's this time. It's the big Leica Forum puzzle. What about Panda M Forum? Or Snakeskin Only Forum?

ho_co Posted September 12, 2006 Share #18 Posted September 12, 2006 would you mind if we collect existing M8 related threads and move them into the M8 section? Excellent idea. ho_co Posted September 12, 2006 Share #19 Posted September 12, 2006 Golly, guys! If we follow Geoff, we'll need to be sure to separate the various forums into black chrome and silver chrome versions; and we'll need to break out the finest M camera ever made, the M5, into its own separate sub-space... And what about space for the à la cartists to gather? And a private room for the special editions? Maybe arrange them according to the color of their boxes, or according to the number of prints they came with. --HC
ho_co Posted September 12, 2006 Share #20 Posted September 12, 2006 What is the plural for forum ? Is it fora ? In Latin the plural is 'fora.' In normal English as spoken by us normal Amurricans, it's 'forums.' (And yes, we place our quotes outside the periods, and we've no idea what the Brits mean when they speak of "inverted commas" or "full stops." ) --HC
